Adding to your comment, what strikes me as odd, especially in Chicago, is that black lives DON'T matter to black people.

In 2011, Chicago PD data shows 75% of murder victims are black and 71% of the murderers were black.

There has actually been some documentary type shows (20/20, Dateline, or might have been something on the History channel). They did interviews with the actual and active gang members knowingly illegally possessing/using handguns. The usual answer they gave was someyhing along the lines of “...so this gang or that gang can’t assault my manhood...”. It’s been a while since I watched it. After it was over, I (as I would think others would) came to the conclusion “because no one taught them any better.”

An unspoken reason there is so much violence is that MS 13, Los Zetas and other Hispanic gangs own much of the city turf, forcing the other gangs to fight over an increasingly smaller share of the pie. They don't want to take on MS 13 and neither do the politicians so nobody talks about it. Back in 2000 Chicago was 28% Hispanic, it's easily 1/3 of the population now.

There are between 1.5 -2 million gang members in the US, almost half Hispanic.
