How does one get rich ?

Besides being a doctor or Bill Gates, does anybody know what it takes to get rich?

Being really skilled at something: inventing, sports, math, etc.

Determination, hard work, and perseverance toss in a bit luck for flavor, don’t try for the highest goal first set lower goals that can be reached that are attainable. From there move on to higher goals. Save as much as you can if you spend what you have now there will be none for your future.

Well, I don't know everything about getting rich. I am pretty freeking poor to be honest.

I do know this. If you want to get rich, and your not born into a rich family, you need to distinguish needs from wants very early. Don't buy things you don't need.

Easiest way is to start with a large amount of money...

No seriously, that is the best way. No amount of hard work is ever going to make you rich. Often your success is because of your great vision and geting the right people behind you.

Here's buzzkill me, in one of my moods, to bring you down.

In regards to the posts about being very skilled and working very hard - I have done this, and it hasn't got me anything. I am highly intelligent and highly educated, but I come from a working class background and went to City College. I don't have the right connections. I could theoretically build a nuclear bomb in my kitchen, yet I cannot find a job. Doesn't help that I am female (being in a technical field). Plus, most of the past work I did is simply just gone (heavy mfg). So. I would like to get $$ too........I need money and I have expensive tastes. I don't know what to do. I see the way society operates and have been thinking of making myself into a "trophy wife" (I am fairly good looking), I don't know though........can't quite get the motivation to do it, and even this lazy plan would involve work on my part (lose 20lbs, be "nice" to the guy---forget it: I'm a jerk and I know it - gotta be able to be my usual abrasive self - I like to get drunk and belch and curse - screw all that 'nice and pleasant' business).

Why can't people just give me money? Think about it: Some ultra rich person, like Bill Gates, could just give me like a mill -- he'll never miss it. It would be like a regular person giving you $5-. Well, this is the business plan I have come up with: Wealthy people should just give me money. I'm not really sure how to implement this, lord knows I ain't going to be doing any work - i figure I could hire a "business manager" - they can implement the nuts and bolts of the plan. See? I have already created another job!

1. Have a rich daddy.
2. Deal drugs.
3. Screw over everyone else to get what you want.

I believe it is human to just want to have more, but the "funny" part is that very often the very "rich" folk are quite unhappy....

Perhaps if you are healthy (imagine being blind or death) and can afford the basics and can feel happy and have a family that cares about you - then you are really RICH......

Gee whiz, how I wish I could have a Porche, a Ferrari and a Lamborghini......

I read a book once on this that stated:

You cannot become rich without taking risks. You need to have enough cash to handle the risks of failure.

go and get 100 different credit cards. transfer all the money into a swiss bank account. do the same with a large loan. Leave the country, sit for 20 years watching the interest build up then withdraw.

Or rob the bank...

It is nearly impossible to get rich by just working. The only way to gain income is to turn a profit on your efforts. If you just work hard and earn a decent check, that is fine, but all you have is a sort of equilibrium of sorts between your labor and the paycheck. The first thing that happens with your check is you pay your bills, and walla, that is an automatic loss. The more you make versus your expenditures will lessen this, but it is still a loss. Take what you have left of your paycheck, if you have any, and invest it smartly into something that creates wealth from nothing - something that earns you a percentage.

When your disposable income and its earnings exceeds what you spend on the bills, then you are on the path to having more money, but think about how long it would take to gain lets say a million dollars doing this. This is why so few people become rich on their own unless they have access and connections with the right people and large amounts of money. The more money you can invest, the higher the profits.

Figure out how to invest other peoples money and you keep a percentage of the profits. Investors and banks do this all the time. That is why a lot of them have enormous fortunes.

One way or another, you will need to make connections and network with the right class of people who can help you do all this. Good luck.

I think CiderGood_HeadacheBad hit the nail on the head basically. Those rags-to-riches stories are one in a million and give people this false hope of attaining a Capitalist version of Nirvana. The adace of "Nice guys finish last"
most definatley applies to business; Microsoft didnt become the giant it did by being nice to the competition, they got there by fear, intimidation, and at times theft.

work hard at something you love or something you believe in....always remember to let money work for you not the other way round......learn to understand what makes money...what are assets and what are liabilitys.......read the book..."rich dad,poor dad"...that will help you!

but most of all....be rich in who you are and your life.....not in the bank..........and although its hard sometimes...dont stand on people to get to the top...keep good and trusting friends around you...i couldnt have got where i am without help,love and support from nice people who believed in what i was doing....when the knocks come just dust yourself off and get back on the horse!.....sucess is measured by how high you bounce when you hit the floor!

my pa is the number 2 man in IT and hes making a pretty penny. i wont tell you guys how much he makes but its some where in the 6 figure range

We live in a capitalist economy. People buy 10,000 things that they dont need cuz they're stupid. A lot of people make a living thru e-business. There's tons and tons of scams out there that people just lovee putting their money in. I say, if people are dumb enough to fall for it, why not!? You're definately not robbing anyone.
