Agents Seek to Dissolve ICE in Immigration Policy Backlash

19 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have written a letter asking for the dissolution of their agency. They are asking for the agency to be split into two agencies, one dealing with immigration and the other to cover many other duties the agency used to be responsible for; or for them to be distanced from detentions and deportations, in a letter the Texas Observer reported on first and has now been picked up internationally.

At least 19 Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigators are seeking to dissolve the agency, concerned that the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal migrants has limited their ability to pursue national security threats, child pornography and transnational crime.

In a letter sent last week to Kirstjen Nielsen, the homeland security secretary, the special agents proposed creating a stand-alone investigations unit and another agency to handle immigration detention and deportation. The request was sent as a growing number of Democrats and immigration-rights advocates have called for eliminating ICE.

Regardless of whether one agrees with the detentions or not, the agents bring up a very interesting point -- the agency used to cover a large number of tasks, from tasks of national security to child pornography and trafficking -- tasks they feel much more important than the new White House policy directs, all resources on deportations.

It leaves the question, in this age where pedophilia is starting to come out in the news more over the last few years, and various organizations and high level players are being implicated -- what is NOT being investigated by those tasked to do so?

The more than 6,000 special agents assigned to Homeland Security Investigations focus on money laundering, drug trafficking, human smuggling, child exploitation and cybercrimes. The agents have been involved in some of the highest-profile criminal investigations in recent years, including the takedown of the Silk Road website, an online market where illegal drugs and fake identifications were sold.

The agency was also involved in the arrest and capture of drug lord Joaquín Guzmán Loera, better known as “El Chapo, who led the Sinaloa cartel before he was extradited to the United States last year.

There is no way you could have read those 3 links in 3 minutes; especially the multi page letter in which they describe their reasoning very well.

You have to see the full letter to know what they are asking for. There is a lot of disinformation coming out from Anonymous sources.

Yeah I see that. Those 19 individuals can perhaps get something done. Maybe not.

They seem to be busting a lot of misdemeanor criminals.

Did you read the letter yet?

We've seen politicization of a Federal agency before it's called the FBI and they are taking serious heat for it.

We hire them to enforce the laws that's the job they do. They may have an argument for splitting the agency up but we already have several to dozens of 3 letter agency's that are tasked with the same thing they are tasked with.

With the sudden change you almost have to wonder if intimidation is a factor from the recent domestic terrorism.

I can totally agree with what they are saying. For those who haven't read it, basically, they are taking a hit, financially AND in reputation by being associated with the current immigration policy. All they want, is to do their jobs and they feel they are being hamstrung.


I gotta say, with all the 3,000 agencies involved in security in the US, there must be severe overlaps and thus loopholes alowing criminals to escape. Maybe this was the idea.....hmmmmm.


DHS has 22 agencies under it....this doesnt even involve state and local law enforcement agencies.

Get rid of them, do not provide them with any pensions, and shame them publicly. If you don't want to enforce the laws on the books, then you don't deserve to be paid.

It's not up to them to decide what they like and don't like that's up to congress. We have borders, we have laws, respect those borders and laws or leave.

Jeezus, they aren't calling for open borders, they are trying to keep from getting their funding cut because the same Congress you mentioned is too scared to enact a real immigration policy. They are speaking up because they are trying to attack the border problem from the OTHER side of the wall.

Try telling your boss the company needs to be split apart so work crews can be assigned tasks the way that YOU think things should be done.. Make the announcement that you are managing things now like these agents.
