The Story:

- Guy sitting in a restaurant is wearing his MAGA hat.
- Manager of restaurant tells customer to remove his hat.
- Customer refuses...says it's his right to wear it.
- Manager tells customer that he won't be served.
- Customer leaves restaurant.
- Two days later, manager is fired because of the incident.

My Opinion:

- Customer was in the right.
- Manager was wrong, bigotted and intolerant.
- Restaurant owner was correct in firing the manager.

The Article:

A restaurant manager in Canada has been sacked after refusing to serve a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hat.

Darin Hodge, who was manager of Vancouver’s Stanley Park Teahouse restaurant, said he had “absolutely no regrets” over Tuesday’s incident, which saw him lose his job two days later.

The row erupted after he asked the unnamed customer to remove his MAGA baseball cap, which has become a prominent political symbol of Donald Trump’s US presidency.

After the man refused, reportedly saying he had a right to wear the cap, he was told he would not be served, and subsequently left the restaurant.

But the Sequoia Group of Restaurants, which owns the Teahouse, said Mr Hodge’s refusal of service amounted to a violation of the company’s “philosophy of tolerance”.

“Sequoia does not support intolerance of any kind, and it is because of these principles that we cannot discriminate against someone based on their support for the current administration in the United States or any other bona fide political party,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

He was willing to be sacked for his actions. OK. That said maybe he can get a job at the Red Hen.

The manager is an irrational moron that turned away business and brought negative attention to the brand.

I wouldnt hire him.

True.
It seems the restaurant had an existing policy of tolerance...which the manager should've known about and adhered to.

For every story we hear about, I wonder how many we aren't hearing?

How many subtle acts of discrimination are going on that we never hear about?

How much food is being spit in MAGA wearing people's food?

Where else is this discrimination being done?

If a manager shows bigotry against you as a customer...it's always a smart idea not to stay for the food.

well I'm sure if it was just that, then simply this would have been a non story.

However, thanks to this mans stupidity, he had to make it political. As BigFatFurryTexan has said, "...turned business away and brought negative attention" (BigFatFurryTexan et al).

Meh, stupid is as stupid does, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Well that is one dumb person. I am guessing who ever hired him also dumb. Yea he had every right to act that way but him employers also have every right to fire him.
He has way too much built up aggression to be in any management position.
LOL sucker

He MADE it political? I'd counter that wearing a MAGA hat is political.

That doesn't make sense. Why is the guy hiring him dumb? A persons political beliefs is almost on the level of your religous ones and is simply not asked or implied of.

I'm sure nothing ever indicated there was any kind of perceived political aggression from this employee and why should it?

This story is really about TDS. Yes, I know, but it really brings to mind seemingly nice and respectful individuals suddenly turning venomous and acting out of spite from a political stance. Not good at all and if you're acting like that, you're sick.

Yes, any individual that seeks to remove a patron as a result of political afiliation is sick. The only way they could pull it off is if they simply don't make a political scene out of it, like coming up with some fake charge to remove them.

Like I said, stupid is as stupid does.

Right. But we're discussing a MAGA hat, not an Obama shirt.

Yes, equally political. Or are you disagreeing?

My friend used to work for that group of restaurants. He left because the managers are a bunch of idiots. This isn't surprising. Vancouver has a lot of #ing people like that.

"Triggered" is so yesterday, if you will...

But there's no better word and it's not just describing a reaction these days. it's become a state of mind... a constant reality for the mindless, hypocritical butt-hurt.

clowns!

People need to make their political statements at the ballot box or other appropriate forums. Wearing clothing that supports your political party is freedom of speech. Refusing service is segregation. Segregation is not the answer for political opposition.

The same progressives that want to be inclusive to those crossing the border want to be segregated from those with different political views. I imagine if all the immagrants were conservative they wouldn't be so progressive about the inclusion of illegal immigrants.

Political hipocrocy.

If there was a stated dress code with 'no hats' on the policy, which there wasn't, then I can understand, otherwise tough shizz, have fun looking for a new job.
