A minimum-wage worker needs 2.5 full-time jobs to afford a one-bedroom apartment in most of the US

You really don't need any more proof of the failing of capitalism than this. At a time when corporations and CEO's are raking in gigantic profits, the people actually doing the hardest and worst jobs can't even afford an apartment. We hear a lot of proganda on here about how capitalism provides for people so well and creates so much prosperity. The truth is it creates prosperity for those at the top by destroying and enslaving those at the bottom. How is this any different than communism? It's just slavery with lipstick.

So don’t work a minimum wage job. My wife only works part time and that is for health insurance. The check is a bonus. My daughter is in college and works part time and earns $16 an hour. Getting a decent job isn’t hard.

When did this start?

When Trump was elected or when Trump was inaugurated?

Asking for a friend.

There are a lot of things that need to be done. First of all, raise the minimum wage to at least $10 an hour. Secondly we need to raise taxes on businesses and the wealthy and use them to bring back more government and union jobs. That would help the American people tremendously. Also we could do infrastructure repair that Trump promised, but put it almost entirely on the states to pay for, so nothing is being done.

inflation is the real problem

wages are flat because of the rising cost of living due to the boom bust bubble market the Fed keeps creating as powerful entities acquire more wealth and power

Id say not staying in a minimum wage level job is the ticket. Otherwise, roommates.

Its not capitalism. Its fiat economy. Your seeing trees and not forest.

OK, WHERE does your wife work part time and yet is provided health insurance, and WHERE does your daughter work part time for $16 an hour?

Also, you've made multiple threads saying how you own businesses and make shloads of money a year, yet your wife has to work for insurance???

If you're too stupid to get a decent job in an job environment with incredibly low unemployment rates and companies begging for qualified individuals, look in the mirror.

That's actually a good point you caught. I think it's very fair to say Met needs to rethink his stance when he can't swing insurance for the wife himself. It speaks volumes on income reality.

Speaking of missing forests for trees here -- Right. Sure they are. Between what hours should the minimum wage places operate? When school lets out to when the kids can't legally work past?

Edit: Just so we're crystal clear on this point:

INFLATION is the real problem.
Here we pay 10 bucks for a mushmelon. up to 30 bucks for a watermelon. Gas is at 1.57 yen to one liter. Crazy, but the world isn't going to end.

The average wage in the US right now is $22.60.

Stats here

Government and Union jobs are a net loss to GDP.

Raising taxes on businesses and the wealthy results in less revenue to the government.

Infrastructure repair should be the burden of the state. The government should tax them less.

So all of your "answers" just make things worse.

I sometimes wish that liberals would be required to take an economics class before posting anything online about basic economics.

Of course, the Democratic party would block that immediately, as informed voters normally are not liberal ones.

It's not just minimum wage jobs. I work in IT as a contractor at a big company but only make $18 an hour because it's Texas, and I can't get another job because I'm not a minority. In the Seattle area houses cost $700,000 dollars now.

America is a criminal enterprise led by a crime family.

Yeah.

I too struggle with the notion that minimum wage should be a "living wage." Whatever that means.

Wow.

And Trump did all that?

Obama I thought fixed all that?

How confusing.. you work in Texas and can't afford a house in Seattle?

Their focus is all wrong.

People focusing on minimum wage jobs and not focusing on jobs that pay higher wages.,

And how would you get jobs with higher wages?

Bring back industry to the US with lower corporate taxes, equalize trade tariffs so that there's a greater demand for US based goods that have come back to the US because of lowered taxes.
