Mother of epileptic boy will not get confiscated cannabis oil back

The mother of a boy who has up to 100 epileptic fits a day has been told by a government minister that potentially life-saving cannabis oil confiscated from her at Heathrow will not be returned.

Charlotte Caldwell was not cautioned when she was stopped by customs officers trying to “openly smuggle” the substance into the UK from Toronto. 

She has vowed to obtain more cannabis oil to help her 12-year-old son, Billy, for whom she said it has proved to be an effective treatment.

Last year, Billy became the first child to be prescribed medicinal cannabis oil on the NHS. He then reportedly went 250 days without a seizure. However, his GP was later ordered by the Home Office not to renew the prescription or face disbarment.

Caldwell said she feared the fits “would eventually kill” Billy. His next dose was due at 3.30pm on Monday, she said, and warned of the dangers of missing his first treatment in 19 months.

Cannabis is a medicine in 20 other countries and was a medicine in the UK until 1971,” he said. “Why not make it a medicine again? We have a politically, not medically, based cannabis policy in the UK and this is why people like Billy Caldwell have to go through this torture.

And my favourite part...

It emerged last year that the UK is the world’s largest producer and exporter of cannabis for medical and scientific use. It provides the majority of the world’s medicinal cannabis exports, 67.6%, mainly to countries with more liberal usage laws.

So whatever your views on cannabis. For this patient at least (and many others with epilepsy) cannabis oil has proven to be fairly effective at preventing epileptic seizures. This entire situation is fairly sad. Not only was this properly prescribed and working, but there's a fairly high level of hypocrisy in being the top exporter of a product you ban in your own country.

It doesn’t get you high as it has almost no THC.

There are 2 different kinds of CBD oil, those from Cannabis and those from Hemp! The scammers are raking in the bucks from selling the Hemp version.

They suck. Now order some in 3 min online.

When will people wake up.

The flower doesn’t cure everything.

However, if it helps someone how dare you take it away.

We should explore this plant and everything it is capable of.

It definitely has healing powers...

Miss Caldwell- If You're reading this there is a 'Head Shop' in Edinburgh that even has the paste. I can't remember the name but it was on one of the main drags (down from the kilt shoppe hahahaha)

I hope she goes online and gets the pill version, delivered right to her door.
My wife's cousin has a child that was having close to as many seizures a day as this boy.
He got prescribed cannabis pills and has improved drastically.
Going from close too 100 seizures daily down to one and often days none, all because of cannabis... you can't say it doesn't work.

Just me, as a mom. I would make damn sure, when traveling:
A) The place I was going, it was available, and whomever I was visiting had it ready.
B) Know better than to trust any government agency NOT to take it away, if I tried traveling with it.

Knowing damn well my child needed this, I would be a bit more prepared. You have to know traveling is hazardous enough, let alone trying to get anything by security.

But yeah, they are (Bleeps) to do this anyway.

CBD oil is made from hemp and, at least here in AK, has to have less than 3% THC.

Cannabis oil is made from MJ plants specifically to get concentrations of THC in the oil. Think, "hash oil".

I wish the article would have made that clear distinction.

@ OP, I also wish the doctor had more guts to fill another prescription! Take the case up the ladder (nothing like having a kid having a fit in front of the court to drive home the fact that is medicine! Horrible way to get your point across but confiscating medicine from a kid who has a prescription is even worse!). Maybe force the UK into a more modern view instead of the throwback to Nixon era regulations and big pharma.

Quit being hypocrites and give the kid his legally prescribed medicine!!

All she needs to do is read Hulda Clarks books and look for alternative anti-parasitics….the primary impact of MJ is as an anti-parasitic and this impact is achieved by ingesting the MJ attatched to a liposomal carrier in a suitable safe form.

There are MANY MANY MANY effective anti-parasitics which will help any person who requires this treatment....MJ is simply a WIDE-SPECTRUM ANTI-PARASITIC.......so you may need to find the one which best helps..all will be good for you but there will be specific ones which will kill the specific parasites contributing to the illness in question.

I think the kid was using a cbd rich rso for his condition but it still has plenty of thc in it.

The cbd from hemp is still good. Neither will get you the least bit high, and the added bonus from the cbd, is that you can pass a drug test.

CBD needs to contain absolutely 0% THC to be legal in the UK. THC actually counteracts the function of CBD so you don't want it anyway. I'm guessing that she wasn't bringing in pure CBD.

It's a fascinating and complex subject.

If it lets the kid have a life (cause up to 250 seizures a day he is existing no living) there is no logical reason to prevent the kid from getting treated with it.

Move to Washington..end of story..wait...the story continues as Trump moves pot off the schedule 1 list.. The question is if Trump does that would that secure 8 years in the White House?

CBD oil is legal in the Uk and you can get it from a high street shop, H and B. Though it's named as a dietary subsidy. How do I know? Cos I'm using it. It helps with inflammation, pain and helps me sleep better. If she wanted medicinal cannabis she should have got her doctors prescription and went to Holland. On return declared the drug and show the certificate. People have done this and been let through with the drug even though it's illegal in the UK.

THC counteracts CBD in IMHO the most contrasting way when you consider impacts of combustion...consumption in other ways produces differing impacts with differing contrasts between TCH and CBD....even the liposomal or other carrier can change the dynamic of delivery and impacts.

To keep it simple for people and to avoid detrimental debate we should all wait until proper scientific honest studies have been legally entered into courts of law just so that we have no confusions over what MJ is and what can be done with it....we have a lot of people now who have good solid experiences and data and knowledge but they ALL still have learning to do because of the ways society has forced MJ research and data that IS HONEST UNDERGROUND FOR SO LONG....o lets please all be sharing and patient and save the energy so we can ALL STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND FORCE THIS HONEST ACCURATE SCIENC INTO THE LEGAL COURT OF LAW....the sooner we do this the soner TPTB will release the high-tech medicines they have been hiding from us ...the anti-aging technology....they ARE READY TO DO IT SOON.. www.gaia.com... ..all we need to do is continue to force MJ research into COURT RIGHT NOW because the ANTI-PARASITIC IMPACTS OF MJ WILL DECIMATE BIG PHARMA for the truth of the parasitic connection to cancer and ALL ILLNESS will FINALLY COME OUT INTO THE OPEN......then TPTB will immediatly need to find a NEW STREAM OF INCOME AS BIG AS BIG PHARMA WAS OR EVEN BIGGER......and IMHO Anti-Ageing is the ony way to do it....selling extended life is going to produce income so large it will require a new categorical verbage to define it.
