Gawd, there are so many good (and just as many crappy) beers out there now a days, that this becomes a tough question to answer. I'll stick to some
strange-ish pairings you might not have considered.
I suggest some strong stout, like Obsidian from Deschutes Brewery, with chocolate anything. Cake, cupcakes, chip pancakes, s'mores, Count Chocula
cereal!! Erm... brownies. Especially if the chocolate treat has some espresso powder in it. They just work real well together!
This might be weird at first sight. Smoked porter and apple pie! Yup. I said it. The smoke and sweet, after a brief shin kicking contest on your taste
buds, actually become this smooth, collaborative, string piece that is pleasant to listen to! And it has good beat you can dance to!
For those adventure seekers out there, I have one for you that sounds like I have eaten too many free range mushrooms and have went around the bend! A
sour beer (aka, farmhouse ale) and cheese. Think about it. The sour ale is similar to both wine and balsamic vinegar and both of those go well with
something like a brie or a blue cheese. Any cheese that is really tangy or stinky, it cuts that down, and makes both (even if you hate them
separately) pair really well together. Add in some bacon wrapped figs... drool!!!
I like coffee porter milk shakes! Take several scoops of vanilla ice cream and slowly pour the porter over (it will foam), add a shot of Kahlua if you
want, best milkshake you ever had!
S+F!
