Creating Passwords That Won't Be Easily Cracked
Here are some general guidelines to create a password:
* Should be more than seven characters long
* Mix letters and numerals
* Use upper-case and lower-case letters
* Do not create a password that contains a single word that is in the dictionary
* Use phrases
PASSWORDS SHOULD NOT CONTAIN:
Your first or last name in any form, or any common name: JohnPublic, Robert, Joan, Richard
A User ID, eg. jqpublic
Your spouse's, child's, or pet's name.
Repeating sequences: AAA, 111, ***...
All digits, or all letters
Palindromes: radar, bob...
Common Words: found in a dictionary, spelling lists, or other lists of words. ("dictionary attacks" are a real threat with common word passwords)
Company specific words: NovaStor, MSTools, Porsche
Personal information including phone numbers, street name, birth dates, etc.
A length of less than 6 digits
