But some of the 22 shootings don't involve an angry person storming the school and shooting people.

Three examples from the 22:

A student shot another student with a BB gun in Gloversville Middle School.

A teacher accidentally discharged a gun during a public safety class at Seaside High School, injuring a student.

One person was hospitalized after a shooting at an apartment building on the campus of the University of South Alabama.

I suppose even an accidental weapon discharge can be considered a "school shooting".

This isn't fake news from CNN, but it is deceptive. The network's on-air footprint is (thankfully) shrinking weekly, but Google (Android) and Apple (I-Phone) still push out CNN headlines to millions of smartphone owners.

Ok, so strike 3 from the record and the picture is still very bleak. Ironic a teacher brought a gun to his school to promote gun safety but accidentally injured a student with said gun. BB guns shouldn’t be listed because who dies from a BB gun? I guess a fatal shot at close range to the head could do the trick or if you’re a black 12 y/o gunned down by cops for playing with one. The shooting on a college campus I’m not familiar with but if someone was shot with malicious intent it definitely qualifies, if it was an accident then strike it from the record.

Maybe CNN thinks Congress watches them, and it will push them to pass legislation. This is clearly targeted to people who don't think for themselves.

With them celebritidizing all the shooter in over-drive this year its surprising they havent persuaded even more angry bullied kids to act out as such.

Good point. The media makes mass shooters celebrities. Their "nobody" status in Social Media suddenly explodes. Almost everyone knows who Stephen Paddock is (was).

If they spread their range lets say 50 miles around any school and say you can shoot anyone with anything they can really up their numbers.

CNN has also claimed "Russian Collusion" for the past year and a half, and so far, nothing.

It's not deceptive, it's outright lies. I pointed this out in a thread earlier this year. But hey, the ends justify the means, right...

It is deceptive and misleading. However, I've found libs aren't too discerning about statistics and facts. They never dig below the surface to really see what is going on, so you can get away with misleading propaganda such as "22 school shootings this year..." Or 97% of scientist believe in global warming... Or CEOs make 1000x's lowest paid worker... Or women make 72 cents to a man's $1 dollar.

All that matters is the headline tugs at progressive heart strings, not that it is actually factual or even makes any sense. And like good little liberal parrots, you will hear them constantly repeating these studies over and over. No matter how many times you try to logically deconstruct them to show them as misleading, you will never get anywhere.

Here in Chicago they report shootings 1 block from a school as being "within striking range" of _________ Elementary.

Yeah..Torturing statistics until they say what you want them to say.

Twisting the truth does create fake news. If the information is spun to make it look like something else was at play, it is fake news even if the evidence is real.

Magicians can make things look other than they really are. Con's and swindlers do the same thing. Deception is so common in our society that people either cannot identify the truth as real or they are skeptical about the truth and use non truths to disprove it.

When people think of mass shootings, they think of someone wantonly shooting up a place with random victims.... Columbine, Fort Hood, Vegas, Pulse, etc.

They aren't thinking two gangs get into a shootout at a local school basketball court and thus it is a mass shooting. Or any of the other metrics where they can technically classify it as a school shooting, but it isn't what people really have in mind.

To put things in perspective, WaPo seems to keep fairly decent numbers on real mass shootings. Not a gang shoot out where four get shot.

They claim over 50 years (since UT Austin Clock Tower in 1966) there have been 152 mass shootings... so an average of 3 per year. A total of 1,091 killed. So 21 people per year on average. Keep in mind, this is ALL mass shootings. School shooting like Parkland or Sandy Hook are even more rare.

While one is too many, it isn't nearly as dire as some people would lead you to believe.

Surely you understood the play on the phrase "school shootings". Instead of all shootings associated with school campuses. You know the image that is associated with the words school shooting for most of the public.

Even if you take all of the bologna ones out of there, it's still statistically safer to be in the us military this year than it is to go to school.

The one connection between them all..... schools. Lets just ban schools. No tide pods, no alphabet restrooms, no micro aggression, no black, white, brown, yellow, red privilege..

I find it amazing what is being discussed in this thread. The fact that CNN has falsely described several cases as school shootings is more important than why school shootings happen and how to stop them.

Look at this without your left vs. right glasses on. Wouldn't it be better to offer true facts, instead of misleading numbers to drive a false narrative? Tell the truth, explain the facts and let the real story be told, not just your version.

A long time ago, in a faraway land, there was a thing called journalistic integrity.

I'd just rather not be lied to given a choice.

You pro gun people are off your fricking heads. The number of acceptable gun incidents at schools SHOULD BE ZERO !!!!!!!

Arguing over 19 real vs 22 exaggerated...pathetic. You can't exaggerate ZERO. You can't manipulate ZERO.

Until you gun toting maniacs stop getting off on guns and realise that they are built for one purpose TO KILL you will continue to have dead children at schools with bullets in them.
