The Treasury Department’s inspector general is investigating whether confidential banking information involving a company controlled by President Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen was leaked, a spokesman said. Detailed claims about the company’s banking history were made public Tuesday by Michael Avenatti, an attorney for Stormy Daniels, the adult-film star who was paid $130,000 by Cohen’s company shortly before the 2016 election to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Trump. Inspector General Eric Thorson, who operates independently of the agency’s political leadership, launched the probe in response to media reports, said counsel Rich Delmar. It might — or might not — answer a question that was the source of much speculation Wednesday: How did Avenatti come into hard-to-get information touching on some of the most sensitive issues before the White House, including the probe led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III?
odd that he/she didnt want their name involved..... guess it comes with a 5 year jail sentence normally which may explain why they are trying to keep their name out of the investigation but further quote from article
A law enforcement official took the risky step of leaking Michael Cohen's confidential banking records over fears that additional information about the embattled attorney to President Trump was being withheld, according to an explosive report. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity over fears of serious legal repercussions, told the New Yorker on Wednesday that two so-called "suspicious activity reports" issued about Cohen's financial dealings are missing from a top-secret Treasury Department database called the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FINCEN. "I have never seen something pulled off the system…It's a stockpile of information," the whistleblower told the magazine. "When something's not there that should be, I immediately became concerned. That's why I came forward." The career official proceeded to leak the single SAR report on Cohen that was still in the system to multiple news outlets and Michael Avenatti, the attorney to porn star Stormy Daniels.
"terrified" eh? it will be interesting to see what happens when this person gets named and or formally charged with the leaks
The official, who's aware that leaking SARs is an offense punishable by up to five years in prison, said fears that someone was suppressing information about Cohen demanded the vigilant act. "To say that I am terrified right now would be an understatement," the official said, but "this is a terrifying time to be an American, to be in this situation, and to watch all of this unfold."
what the hell is going on at the FBI
An FBI agent found to have leaked sensitive information to witnesses, mishandled classified information and lied to investigators will not face criminal charges and appears to have retired while an inquiry into his conduct was underway, according to the Justice Department Office of Inspector General. An investigative summary posted online by the department’s internal watchdog unit on Monday is short on details, but says investigators opened an investigation after receiving allegations that the unidentified special agent “contacted witnesses in a criminal investigation for an improper purpose.” “The OIG found that the SA contacted individuals who he either knew were, or had reasonable belief would be witnesses in the criminal investigation and that the SA’s contacts with several individuals appeared to be designed to improperly influence their prospective testimony,” the statement said. “Accordingly, the OIG concluded that the SA’s contacts with the witnesses were improper and constituted misconduct.” Investigators also uncovered other instances of serious misconduct by the agent, saying he “divulged law enforcement sensitive information to unauthorized individuals; misused his government issued electronic devices; provided misleading testimony during a related civil deposition; mishandled classified information; misused his position during contacts with local law enforcement officers; and provided false information to the OIG.”
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A draft of the much-anticipated report from the Justice Department's internal watchdog, addressing a wide-ranging set of allegations that department protocols were flouted when the FBI investigated Hillary Clinton's handling of classified information, has been completed, according to sources with knowledge of the matter. Inspector General Michael Horowitz informed lawmakers on Capitol Hill Wednesday that his office has provided leadership at the Justice Department and FBI with a copy of the draft report and has requested that they review it for classified information. "We will update you on the specific timing for the report's release, and I will be prepared to provide a briefing and testify publicly about our findings and conclusions as soon as the report is released," Horowitz wrote in a letter to members of various committees. Of all the politically charged reports accusing law enforcement of misconduct since President Donald Trump took office, this one from the Inspector General's office -- now 17 months in the making -- has the potential to deliver the stiffest blow for officials who formerly occupied the highest positions within the FBI and Justice Department. "It's not going to be good, it's just a question of how bad it's going to be," said one former Justice Department official. The report is not yet finalized, however, as lawyers for the various individuals criticized in it have an opportunity to review it with their clients and submit rebuttal points for consideration. That process is underway with several witnesses having been notified they can review it later this week, according to sources familiar with the matter, but its precise conclusions and recommendations have largely been kept under wraps.

Whoever the leaker is, they won’t be anonymous for long.
Turns out that all of the "trumptards" like me were right again, this was leaked SARS.
So he decides instead of going to Mueller or Rosanstein, that he will instead leak to a porn stars lawyer that is on tv 24/7 running his mouth about trump.

Then they will be looking at five years in prison.
All to leak info to a porn stars lawyer.
Great decision!
they may even get the reporter as well with the above precedent if sessions wants to pursue it
The case was notable not just in its own right, but also because it spawned a First Amendment confrontation between Risen and the Justice Department. Prosecutors initially sought to compel Risen to take the witness stand at trial so they could ask him about his sources, and an appeals court gave them the right to do so. In doing so, the court effectively ruled that neither the First Amendment nor common law offers protection to journalists who promise anonymity to their sources from having to testify about them in criminal proceedings — a precedent that might take on new significance if President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions follow through on their promise to root out leakers with criminal charges.
