So the easy approach on this one is better sex education.

This isn't even a rhetorical question, it should be the standard solution against most bad things happening while (having/not having/having in a wrong way/etc.) sex.

To have a taboo on speaking about sex is the wrong way, because young people will(!!) try to have sex.
And if they are educated, they will have less problems with sex.

This implies that "your" youth patiently awaits sexual partners while not doing active searching. And then gets found by the "wrong" people, who shamelessly sex them up. In ways the pure-of-mind-youths would have never explored themselves.

I can assure you that this is not the way it is happening.

I don't think it's a lack of sex education, I think it's more a case of not weighing up the consequences.

Back when we were young and dumb we didn't have access to sex sites like tinder we didn't have sexting and lord knows what else the youth of today have...

Sure, there are easy ways to get sex today. This has nothing to do with a lack or over-availlability of sex-ed.

If you know what may happen by unprotected sex, you think twice (or at least have a condom in your pocket or elsewhere). It is in the responsibility of adults and government to ascertain that every teen has heard about STDs and the ways to prevent them (while being sexually active, bc no-sex-before-marriage is a myth).

LMAO!! For many Californians....I say, you reap what you sow! I don't find this surprising in the least bit.

With that said, I was born in Southern California, 60 miles north of L.A. My Dad, being the wise man he is, moved us out of his birthplace and out west to Wyoming. I'm very much grateful for that decision, even though it was a tough one for me personally trying to make new friends in a completely new world back in the late 80's. In hindsight though, it made me a better person. And, a person without an STD.

Technology and social media I think can indeed be attributed to this. Anyone over the age of about 30 knows what it was like to try and get a date pre-cell phone era. You had to actually approach a person...in real life. And if you didn't know them...you better be legit cause face to face encounters don't offer opportunities of hitting like buttons and heart emojis and using 10 year old photos of yourself back when you fit into your favorite jeans. Getting shot down at a bar in front of your friends can break a person mentally. Calling a girl's home phone at risk of her Dad answering the phone will terrify you. All that's gone now, people date consequence free.

Tinder, Grinder, MeetMe, and many other apps make it way to easy to claim rights to a personalized STD. And California's full of guilt free, progressive thinkers who like to share fluids with each other. This is the world they wanted...now they've gotta deal with it.

Yeah .. but this is Cali. It's not like they don't have the most progressive education in the country. It's not like they aren't talking about sex and sex ed from the time kids are in kindergarten.

I'm glad I do not live in Cali. This is just one more nail in their coffin. I do not like the pushy attitude by some people in southern California. They have that entitled attitude and think their rights are more than those of other people in the country. Everything in California is a possible carcinogen, even the people.

Anywho...why is there this massive upsurge in STD's in CA?

My real interest is in where exactly are these cases popping up and what the ethnic breakdown is.

Now what is REALLY funny to me about this particular article is this:

The health department's chief of the division of communicable disease control also placed blame on social media. 
"It makes it easier for people to meet people they don't already know to have sex," Dr. James Watt told the San Francisco Chronicle. "The internet allows for broadening of sexual networks, and the broader that gets the more opportunity you have for sexually transmitted diseases to spread." 

Then they go on to say this:

The state's homeless population of more than 130,000 people accounts for about 25 percent of the nationwide total, with clean up efforts associated with the communities topping $10 million in 2016-17. Maintenance crews have been tasked with cleaning up feces, urine, needles and other dangerous materials as the cities grapple with how to handle the surge of homelessness. 

So....are the homeless in CA well enough off to have access to the internet, social media, etc? And have the savvy to create a post or profile to engage another homeless person of the same disposition? Or maybe clean up enough to create a profile on a match site and entice a non homeless person into their crib?

Does anyone else see the irony in these excuses?

My bet...we are seeing the beginning of a larger issue with illegal immigration, and no...not just hispanics....

A high school friend contacted me over facebook. She's homeless because of meth addiction. She got an obamaphone for free and when her data runs out she goes to places with free wi-fi-. She has been selling her body to buy the meth.

Where I live, the homeless charge their phones, etc. at the public library. Quite easy.
