BAKU, Azerbaijan — Two fires broke out Saturday at a vacant high-rise building in Azerbaijan’s capital that was intended to be a Trump-branded hotel in the former Soviet republic before Donald Trump was elected as U.S. president.

The first blaze burned the 33-story building in Baku for three hours before firefighters shooting jets of water from trucks extinguished it. No injuries were reported and the incident officially was declared over.

But flames lit up the sky after the tower caught fire again in the evening. It, too, was put out.

After the first blaze, the building had few visible signs of damage to its exterior. Authorities have not given a cause for the fires.

Reflecting the building’s significance in Azerbaijan, Emergency Situations Minister Kamalladin Heydarov was at the scene for the first fire. The ministry said it had started on the 18th floor.

But it's telling that when a building is on fire half a world away, the liberal mind quickly jumps to insurance schemes. It's no longer a disease where you spin something as anti-Trump but rather, you immediately spin it as anti-Trump as possible. It's probably so reactionary and embedded within your DNA at this point you don't even realize it. Like hypnosis.

I'm not in the US and find this really funny. If it was 3 Clinton Ptoperties that had burned down in quick succession the Right would be all over it. Because ita Trump the Left are. It's so predictable...

I had no idea this was a third one. Says the second was the same tower in New York, which was Electrical issues

Not sure what else to say, I’m supposed to write more.

Given all the lawsuits by contractors that he's apparently treated poorly, I would not be surprised if the buildings are a mish-mash of code enforcement problems. And different countries have different standards for building codes; not sure what those are for this property, but I can say that fro what I've seen a lot of the Middle East has rather... unenforced standards.

That said, I hope no one was hurt in this fire.

Trump doesn't own the building he is a licensor. He tells themthey can use the trump name as long as it meets Trump internationals standards. Its owners are Elton and Anar Mammadov . Their company is called Baku XXI Century and any money reinsurance would go to them.

Have you ever had an insurance claim? Most times you do not gain from something happening. Maybe the rich are able to over insure things but there is always an appraiser sent when I make a claim. I did quite a few insurance jobs when I was building, by the time your finished, the contractor does not get rich and the homeowner does not benefit much. Maybe if you get a new roofing job on an old house where a storm tore the shingles off you gain, but usually it is more inconvenience in setting things up than there is benefit.
