Six planes flying together extremely high up - explanations?

Based in UK. Just saw six planes fly at around 80 degrees angle up and over my home. So high the plane shapes could not be made out. Spotted them due to the trails. Two in the middle of this formation appeared larger or had larger engines as the trails were thicker like a double trail. Is this normal as in has anyone seen anything like this before? Seems unusual especially as the height is akin to what we would normally see for passenger planes, not military or whatever these were.

They were flying over the river Tay, East coast, heading North.

I've been tracking military stuff on ADS-B Exchange (www.adsbexchange.com...)this morning and haven't seen much up that way apart from a couple of KC-10s flying about.

Maybe keep an eye on it as well? They might come back...

I was working for an exploration company in the James bay low lands, in northern canada.
In the complete middle of know-where we all hear a faint roar approaching.
Soon 6 planes came into view, very high up. 1 in the middle, 4 flanks and 1 following in the rear.
Almost like a diamond shape.
We could make out the shape of each plane. The one in front was the largest.

The only place this entourage could had been going was either the north pole, or Towards Russia.
I was able to get a few pics, and actually had a buddy post them to this site.
It was about 10 years ago now

Planes fly in formation all the time. You think military planes don't fly at the same altitude (or higher) than commercial planes???

The fact they were of different types says to me that it is military.


Have a camera ready today in case they come back, there are also many tracking websites so maybe you can keep an eye on those

They're KC-10s dragging German Typhoons to the US for training. Three KC-10s with at least three fighters on tow.

BLUE81, BLUE91, and BLUE13. They're heading to the US with fighters on tow.

They took off from near me, Lakenheath I believe.

At least one would have taken off from the German base, unless they have an A400M coming with them for parts and pieces, but they probably met up in the air with the fighters.

Have never seen it happen and we live near a small military air base so I found it very odd. Have seen the occasional formation of 2 or 3 jets flying much lower but never six so high up and going at such an angle.

BLUE81 and BLUE13 are in US airspace now, with their fighters. They're either heading to China Lake, or Nellis, not sure which yet.

Im unable to find the thread. So i tried looking online with some key words. Still no luck.

I think I have the pics on an external hard drive at home.
I will try looking for them when I get in tonight.

This drag just got weird as they're crossing into North American airspace.

Blue13 is now showing as being on the ground, Thats gotta be a glitch ?

edit, Blue13 transponder now showing as off , but last time it was on for me it showed on the ground at Newfoundland
