This gave me a big cheesy grin , I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Wednesday night the Foo Fighters played a gig in Austin, Texas that will likely live long in the memory of Grohl , Kiss Guy and the audience who witnessed the spectacle.
As he is known to do Dave Grohl picked out a member of the audience to get up on stage with the band but on this occasion the audience member who was adorned with Gene Simmons face paint , a Motorhead T-shirt and a whole lot of talent showed he was no pretender as he joined the band in a rousing rendition of Monkey Wrench and made Grohl forget the words to his own song , the guy nicknamed Kiss guy by Dave has since been identified as Yayo Sanchez who obviously had the time of his life and gained an admirer in Grohl.

Although Grohl hesitated when offering his guitar to Kiss Guy, it wasn't long before he realized the talent hiding behind the makeup. Playing along with the Foo Fighters' "Monkeywrench," Kiss Guy immediately showed that he's a force to be reckoned with. Not only could he keep up with the rest of the band, but he confidently added solos and brought plenty of stage presence

I think Dave is the coolest guy and this video shows that to its full extent , Kiss Guy rocks.

Huge FF fan.

Grohl is one of those guys that just gets it.

With that said I’ll have to do a bit more investigating but this looks like an even better idea than what look s to be the surface.

FF intentionally finding a local talent that can play. Putting him ( her ) in the front section ( that’s what gives it away). Then pulling them on stage with the intent of “ hay man, do you think you can play this song?”

Then the guy ( gal) killing it.

How could you not be pumped if , that randomly happened at a FF concert you went to. I’ve been to a few FF shows and if that happened at a show I was at it i’d stoked.

Amazing video , thank you for posting this. What a nice break from the politics that consumes ATS these days. Dave Grohl is 10 times the talent Cobain was.

Dave is a dying breed rock star. It sucks Kurt died, but there was a lot of foo to be fought, so musicwise, things turned out good.

I did enjoy it. I love how the Foo Fighters do that every so often...let some guy come up and play "Monkey Wrench."

I met Dave Grohl and his mother in the oddest way a very long time ago as a cashier at a grocery store. Really cool guy and down to earth. (This was in his Nirvana days before Nevermind took off.) I honestly didn't know who he was until I checked into it afterwards. I'm really glad to see that he doesn't seem to have changed at all.

A really cool moment.

Dave is so talented and still a down to Earth nice guy. Most in the industry truly admire him. He is a friend and even an anchor to many.

Here's a longer video where Dave addresses that at the end.

Well.. I mean, of course they are going to say that.
The same thing would be said in both circumstances (a scripted event and an off the cuff moment).

Really, its smart marketing. But, one of the red flags for me is Grohl feigning (I'm assuming) surprise that kiss guy has his own pick.

I don't know a single guitarist, or even musician, who would be surprised at a guitarist having a pick in their pocket. But, it makes for an absolutely fantastic line, especially for non-musicians. And, the magic of the moment is probably enough to even make guitarists overlook it.

A guitarist having a pick in their pocket is like the average person carrying a cell phone. Sure, there are some that don't, but no one is surprised when someone pulls out their own phone, much less say something about it.

We get comfortable with the tools we use most, and there is a ton of difference between picks. Never know when a jam session will come up, and its good to be prepared. If you're not a guitarist, or musician, you'd probably be surprised at how often such things actually happen.

All these times to make amends
What do you do when all your enemies are friends
Now and then try to bend
Under the pressure wind up snapping in the end...

The reason why you should always learn the songs!!

That kicked ass!!!

Simple blues licks, sure. But at volume... that Kiss Guy has played before! I get the feeling that he is in a band. But still, a one off in front of that many people with out hesitation... AWESOME!!

Thanks for the post!!

Amazing - had me grinning the whole time! That's like every garage or bedroom players dream. Dave and Co are one of the last authentic rock n' roll bands.

I play guitar, and I don't carry a pick around in my pocket, let alone at a concert in the hopes I'll be called on stage at random.

I would have had my mobile phone though. But it's hard to play good licks with a phone.

Watched another angle, and either way, brings a big smile to my face. Never been big on foo fighters, but then I've never watched them live.
