Soros foundations to quit Hungary amid political hostility

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has blamed Soros, a Hungarian-born U.S. financier, for a host of ills and pushed through legislation cracking down on non-governmental organizations called the "Stop Soros" laws which drew international criticism.

The Hungarian news web site 444.hu said the Open Society Foundations office would shut by Aug. 31 and move first to Vienna then on to Berlin.

Things are looking good for Hungary, which, by the way, is Soros' home. Vienna beware! Unfortunately, I don't hold any hope for it happening here in the U.S. Too much $$ to be made.

A once-prestigious economic weekly, Figyelő, has published a double-page list of what they call “Soros-mercenaries” – people who work for organisations that receive financial support from George Soros. The moves come after Orbán claimed to have such a list and promised to pass his “Stop Soros” law targeting civil society first thing in May.

putin did a good job in hungary...just like he is doing here in the US....make sure it's all about "us versus them"....dehumanize "them" to the point that "them" are pure evil....this allows "us" to treat "them" as not being human at all, just vermin to be done away with...that way the "us" feels no guilt when it happens

I think he's just saying, be careful what you hope for. And, I agree somewhat. While it's a very good thing for Hungary to rid itself of Soros, where do you draw the line and... more importantly, who draws the line.

You draw the line when people like Soros does what he does. The government should draw the line, but they are just as corrupt so that might not be a good thing.

I wouldn't say he's against fascism if it could make him a buck. He embodies the very definition of a Plutocratic oligarchy (rule by a few rich).

You don't even know what a fascist is JimmyX. I'll give you a clue, it's people who demonize anyone who doesn't believe as they do and commits acts of violence against them. Fascists also do not believe in others to speak freely because they are afraid of hearing ideas that they don't agree or believe in. Seems to me in our society today the people who scream the word fascist constantly really should take a look in a mirror.

Smart. We need some of those "stop Soros" laws in every country to remove people like him. They are not part of the future. These type of people hold humanity back for entire generations.

Good on Hungary. If Soros targets Hungary in retaliation then the international community MUST act or cease to exist in any meaningful unity. What could be clearer common ground?
