Dear ATS Readers, Writers,

a reply to: Slanter

Hello Slanter, and you make very good valid points.

Yeah, it is pretty "death oriented".. it is a disaster in space after all. And for a 7 year old...yeah, could be pretty heavy on the psyche of some children.

Heck, my sisters used to have bad dreams from watching the old black and white Werewolf, or Dracula movies, so ... these new fancy digital graphics, colour, and really good injury make-up artists....

Well, my sisters probably would have needed to be institutionalised for a while...yeah, these new movies and stuff get pretty believable.

Although, at the same time, I know several kids of good friends who it wouldn't affect at all.

These kids today or a lot more aware, know more than we think they know, and think about and understand more than we give them credit for too I think.

One young girl I know, was 4. She could run an I-pad ten times better than I ever could. At 4. She also sat me down one day, and grabbed an old motherboard from a laptop her dad had changed out.

She then proceeds to tell me about the printed circuit board, and correctly identifies the components on that board! Resistors, capacitors, diodes, power supplies, connections for fan, and other stuff. I was blown away by this kid!

This was all before she started kindergarten. Ok, perhaps she is a bit exceptional, but several other kids I knew at that time were "on the ball" much better than my generation was at that age...

If that makes any sense..Ha!

You do bring up a point that needs considering before very young kids watch it.

Thanks dothedew, great input.

Yeah mate, I was thinking..... OK When are they going to tell us Judy is adopted... or did mom have an affair whilst dad was off doing war stuff or disaster stuff? She is cousin to Madonna's or Angelina's kids? Yeah, to be explained further in the series I reckon.

Mom hacked the computer's and got the son in the program too so he could go on the mission...so it sent the message that hacking was Ok and COOL, as long as it is for a "good cause".

What determines a "good cause" to young formative minds...some politicised issue in their major hormone storm years..teenage.

The dishonest act, and IT breach, and zero discovery or repercussions is yet to be seen or known. Yes, if he got left behind, they all would have died in the first episode..Ha!

Enjoyable, and yes the weather shots... not quite right..

Don't know if you noticed or not, nobody seemed drenching wet, or any sign of hypothermia...-60, heavy rain... wet, hypothermia would set in immediately and in no time everyone would be dead.

But, hey mate, I keep telling myself it's a movie...not perfect but pretty good considering it all.

On episode 2 myself, good show not as great as some others but definitely a worthy reboot.

Surprised that so many people liked this series. Visually this is beautiful but the acting left me with wanting to bash my head with a hammer. Tried and only made it so far up to episode 8, but as i said the acting or more likely the script is what pushed me off the edge.

I love that they are using my flairgun that i bought at walmart.

Regardless of the stupid and obvious Hollywood forced politics , its watchable but predictable.

Also the dr smith angle is a bit drawn out by ep 4.

The show does not make any statements about whether hacking is good or not. That's just you projecting your own feelings, like a couple of other posters here.

I've also yet to see a show getting physics right. They all fail at some point. But yes, it would have been great if the writers let a scientist read the script to avoid the more silly stuff.

I just binged watched all episodes up to 10, I likened it to Macgyver if he was lost in space, I wished it were a lii darker tho, that incident in space with the dad and antihero dude for instance, but recommend it especially if you want to get your kids interested in science.

We watched the first 2 episodes last night. I thought it was okay. It was fun seeing Billy Mumy in a cameo. Hope to see some of the other cast members from the original show. My mom didn't like Penny's smart mouth, but I said "you go, girl!" On the other side, I wasn't crazy about the mom. There is a difference between aggressive and assertive and she was just too aggressive. Will was okay but he was more wimpy than the original Will. Judy was not a very good actress and her character didn't stand out much. I liked Don West and Dr. Smith. The dad was kind of ho-hum. Robot was okay but looked like he was borrowed from some other sci-fi movie that was made to appeal to tweeners.

Will keep watching.

Sal

I admit I’m a little hooked. It took a couple of episodes. I was disappointed at first that Dr Smith was a woman (but the scene on the couch where she waves her sister to sleep was hilarious.

I’m still confused as to who is Judy now? Is she adopted? Product of an affair?

Don West is great. Like Penny and Will too. Parents eventually grew on me once that animosity was gone.

Overall, can’t stop watching now. Good show!

There's one word, maybe two, for this disaster ~ terrible, stupid.

ETA, Mark Goddard was hot as Don West. I don't know who that is playing his character, but he is butt ugly and not at all funny.
