Is This Feasible? Nuclear Solar Hybrid Generator

Im just sitting here having a beer with a friend and we came up with an idea for an electicity generator.

Its essentially a hybrid nuclear/solar device.


The idea is something like a 10x10 or whatever sized metallic cube, capable of handling extreme pressure and heat. Fill it with hydrogen or whatever atomic compound, bring it to extreme pressure, shoot a specific high energy, concentrated set of lasers at a point and sustain a low level nucleat reaction, probably not continuous, more like an intermittent effect like firing pistons in an engine to mitigate heat. Probably would need cooling systems as typical in nuclear plants.

The kicker is that the metal would be designed to be permeable by UV light and above.

Set up an array of advanced rectennas (theoretically super efficient solar or e.m. harnessing devices) around the cube to absorb all of the high energy light and convert to electricity.

Does this make any remote sense?

No one wants nuclear power anymore. It is dangerous and not renewable as it requires mining of ores. How about you think of ways to filter or block radiation completely and maybe we can use that tech on other planets that have radiation when we start colonizing them. The stuff that block radiation right now requires harvesting of Postassuim iodiode which is not really freindly when we are forced to over harvest. Not even robots survive radiation since Fukushima melt down.

You need fissible material like U235 and something that gives off fast neutrons to even begin a nuclear reaction. On top of that your box doesn't have nearly enough shielding for the gammas that will be produced, nor any means of reflecting the newly released neutrons back into the fissible material.

Nuclear reactions occur as a result of a neutron being absorbed into an isotope that causes the isotope to become unstable and split into isotopic fragments while at the same time releasing gamma rays, extra neutrons and heat. Lots of heat.

Light doesn't split the atom so lasers and sunlight aren't going to work.

No they didn't. You need radioactive material for it to be a dirty bomb.

This needs to stop.A WW3 will not come from this. it's a coalition of strikes on emptied airfields and infrastructures. Russia will not retaliate unless their presence in Syria is in any way threatened. As far as we know the hotline between the West and Moscow is still open and coordinated. The only time you should worry is when the hotlines go cold between the two.

This has happened around the same time last year and it will no doubt happen again next year. Until then carry on with your lives and hope some common sense and peace comes from this in the future. We will get the answers.

sounds way to messy for anything except unmaned aircraft assuming you could get it going

theres aredy a idea of detonating mini nukes to propell space craft ... be one hell of a way to get supplys to mars ... not people tho

as for radiation sheilding we have to develop a eltromagnetic sheild there is just no fesable way to take phisical sheilds with us into space for anything biger than a spacecraft

This is basically what Black light power, or Brilliant light power, or what ever they are calling their scam these days is attempting/claiming.

The Brilliant part being that previously they claimed to be converting hydrogen in to hydrinoes... and now... wait for it wait for it.... they ramped up the bat # crazy and now claim they are converting hydrogen into Dark Matter.

The issue with this plan is

1) Pressure vessel you describe would be insanely expensive and enormous due to the pressure requirements, all parts including electrical delivery etc will be custom made and also massively expensive
2) Metal that is UV transparent... and can act as a pressure vessel, doesn't exist. If you take some basic atomic physics you will quickly see that really good Vacuum UV is basically absorbed by everything, generally causing ionization. It isn't till it starts to bridge the UV to XRay region that things become transmissive again. With the thickness of the vessel you speak about... it would have to be Gammas.

These basically make the plan... not a plan and more a fantasy
