McClatchy: Mueller has evidence Cohen was in Prague in 2016, confirming part of dossier

While it's typical for the "Steele dossier" to be referred to in conjunction with an adjective like "unverified," the one thing that is typically pointed to as being completely debunked is the allegation that Donald Trump's bag man, Michael Cohen, traveled to Prague in the late Summer of 2016 for a clandestine meeting with a Russian official.

Michael Cohen has vehemently denied not only that the meeting occurred but that he's ever been to the Czech Republic let alone Prague. Cohen showed his passport to BuzzFeed to bolster the claim.

“I have never in my life been to Prague or to anywhere in the Czech Republic,” he said.

But according to sources for McClatchy, Mueller's team has found evidence that Cohen is lying.

Cohen has vehemently denied for months that he ever has been in Prague or colluded with Russia during the campaign. Neither he nor his lawyer responded to requests for comment for this story.

It’s unclear whether Mueller’s investigators also have evidence that Cohen actually met with a prominent Russian – purportedly Konstantin Kosachev, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin — in the Czech capital. Kosachev, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee of a body of the Russian legislature, the Federation Council, also has denied visiting Prague during 2016. Earlier this month, Kosachev was among 24 high-profile Russians hit with stiff U.S. sanctions in retaliation for Russia’s meddling.

But investigators have traced evidence that Cohen entered the Czech Republic through Germany, apparently during August or early September of 2016 as the ex-spy reported, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is confidential. He wouldn’t have needed a passport for such a trip, because both countries are in the so-called Schengen Area in which 26 nations operate with open borders. The disclosure still left a puzzle: The sources did not say whether Cohen took a commercial flight or private jet to Europe, and gave no explanation as to why no record of such a trip has surfaced.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller’s office, declined comment.

We found out today that the embattled Cohen is under criminal investigation and if this reporting is correct, it certainly doesn't seem to bode well for him.

I thought this was debunked months ago. It was investigated and found to have been a different man named Michael Cohen...

There sure is a lot of "anonymous" info coming out.

Now there you go, spoiling the Trump-haters fun. To them there can only be one person residing in the US with the name so it must have been him! Now you want to rain on their "sources" parade....shame. I have a good laugh every time I see one of these "gotcha" threads proclaiming that "proof" is just around the corner....according to "sources."

Rather tough to travel to another country or leave your on country without your passport reflecting it so find it difficult to believe. This is something that would have been easy to confirm with a phone call to customs and would have taken place long ago one would think.

I suppose he could have traveled somewhere else and then traveled with help to Prague without going through customs but again find ithatd to believe however if he is guilty of something then lock him up.

In January of last year, within a day or two of BuzzFeed publishing the dossier, the reporting from Trump supporters' favorite source, CNN, was that intelligence officials believed that it was a different Michael Cohen. (Michael Cohen is probably not the rarest name)

It could be that CNN's sources and therefore their reporting was wrong, it's also entirely possible that Mueller's team found things that the original investigators did not. It's also possible that McClatchy's sources are wrong here.

I guess we'll find out eventually.

I traveled to Madrid, Istanbul, and several other places without a passport. Didnt say it was impossible, just hard to believe with as much attention has been paid to this issue that it has not come up and that a lawyer would be so stupid but hey if he is guilty of a crime then he needs to be ready to do the time

So something that was already debunked a year ago is the basis of your post and you can't deny it.

I used to look up to you as the person that got the "left" side of the news so well that CNN should have been tracking you on ATS. You should be their prep. You're good, sharp, biased but that's OK because it's your opinion and you think out what you post. I'm biased too. We're human.

Edit to add... we as a nation have been acting under the "color of the law" for too long now.

The act of a state officer, regardless of whether or not the act is within the limits of his or her authority, is considered an act under color of law if the officer purports to be conducting himself or herself in the course of official duties.

What about the spirit of the law? As in, why the law was put in place and for what reason?

If you are a typical American, you get up in the morning, eat, interact with your family and go to work. You work, take a lunch, finish your work, drive home. Then you eat dinner, relax a bit and turn in.

Under our current laws, you have committed an average of three FELONIES in your day.

Laws are currently on the books not to catch a criminal. They are there to either get a criminal off or put a non-criminal in jail, if someone wants them there.

You and I and others can discuss the minutia of various laws and edicts all we want on this forum. But at the end of the day, what do they serve?

They no longer serve us any longer, from what I'm seeing.

Should we just stop and admit that there is a ruler class and a server class and just get along with it?

After all, there will be no civil war, no uprising, no anything. We will continue to argue about the BS while the people that own us do whatever they want.

Actual justice needs to be served in America soon. Or we as Americans are done.
