Traumatophobia

Traumatophobia is the fear of war or physical injury. The origin of the word traumato is Greek (meaning wound) and phobia is Greek (meaning fear). Traumatophobia is considered to be a specific phobia, which is discussed on the home page.

. . . What are the causes?

It is generally accepted that phobias arise from a combination of external events (i.e. traumatic events) and internal predispositions (i.e. heredity or genetics). Many specific phobias can be traced back to a specific triggering event, usually a traumatic experience at an early age. Social phobias and agoraphobia have more complex causes that are not entirely known at this time. It is believed that heredity, genetics, and brain chemistry combine with life-experiences to play a major role in the development of phobias. (Wikipedia - phobia).

As a conspiracy, this may seem pretty thin, but perhaps the 24/7 news cycle is causing Traumatophobia.

The fear of war.

Judging by some of the posts and threads generated, we may be seeing actual Traumatophobia.

The way the MSM obsesses with war, the results, the casualties, the blame, perhaps our western culture has become obsessed with war.

We've been at it since 9/11. It's bound to cause some effect.

War. War. Always war. Death, bombings, drones, chemical attacks, nukes, Russia, North Korea, China, US, Iran. . . . . madness!

If you're a news junkie and glued to the set 24/7 and only rely on MSNBCFOXCNN it might have an effect on anyone.

I'm not here to blame TrumpObamaHillaryKerryBushNinjasFlyingMonkeys.

I'm here to discuss the real Traumatophobia that people may be experiencing.

I am not a trained psychiatrist, psychologist, mental health expert. I've never even stayed at a Holliday Inn Express.

But I do wear glasses and have sweaters. So that kinda makes me qualified as the unofficial mental health expert around here.

Folks, in a nutshell, it's going to be okay.

So stop worrying about it.

Unless you live in Crimea. If you live in Crimea, take on the worry. You're going to die before President Trump vacates.

What isn’t thin is that the 24/7 news cycle is definitely causing Trumpaphobia...

But that’s cool, the more triggered small minded people become, the more asinine they look and that’s a good thing for those that think outside the proverbial box. Let them eat their own...

i think OP is on to something. full immersion in the news cycle does have the potential to cause psychological damage, for sure.

Anyone with a brain should do risk assessment, but most people don't. Wisdom makes it so you do not have to fear things so much. I watch funniest home videos and wonder if there are any intelligent people out there.

Judging by the scars on my body and the number of broken bones I've taken care of with no help from a doctor, I would say it's fair to say I don't suffer this condition.
War does suck. It happens from time to time. So be it. Mainstream media does suck...I avoid it.
I prefer peace, love, and good happiness stuff, but humans can be a violent species.

What the TV viewer gets in terms of traumatophobia is nothing compared to the fear in the people of Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan where the actual war is going on.

Maybe that's whats driving Islamic terrorists who run over people or blow themselves up?

I think what they call people with 'traumatophobia' is what me and my people call 'pussies.'
Bring it on if you want some.
As your attourney, I would advise against it.

Their possible logic or base code of ethics-
News affects peoples reactions. Foment rational thought and happiness. But report what is required.
If no fox/cnn spin use overload? My take. Be free. Be rational. But stay a float enough to be opinionated without joining a crowd of lemmings.

Wow, awesome thread.

Good thing that people who want peace instead of war, people who are so mentally disturbed that they get scared by the thought of bombs raining down again in some empoverished country outside of the US, bombs causing death and suffering among innocent civilians, can be mocked and promptly corrected for this kind of wrongthink.

Thanks a million for the Orwellian diagnosis, Dr. Phil. As an obviously mentally disturbed person I feel so much better now that I understand what is causing my wrongthink. Finally I can start to enjoy the lovely war mongering show, gonna make popcorn.
