As a follow-up to this ATS thread www.abovetopsecret.com... , President Donald Trump signed the "Stop Online Sex Trafficking" bill into law today, amid tears and applause from victims and families, gathered at the Oval Office.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed legislation aimed at penalizing website operators that facilitate online sex trafficking and chipping away at a legal protection for the technology industry.

The law is intended to make it easier for state prosecutors and sex-trafficking victims to sue social media networks, advertisers and others that kept exploitative material on their platforms, although victims would be required to show websites knowingly facilitated sex trafficking.

Silicon Valley has long opposed efforts to rewrite the Communications Decency Act, which protects companies from liability for content posted by their users and has been credited with fueling the sector’s growth for 20 years.
More at: www.reuters.com...

At today's daily White House press briefing, Sarah Sanders opened it by describing the bill and how it will help thousands of women and children avoid becoming victims. During the 45 minute Q&A session that followed, not a single "journalist" asked a follow-up question about the Anti-Sex Trafficking bill. IMO, their lack of interest speaks volumes about how callous and complicit our Mainstream Media organizations are.

Legitimate sex workers are protesting this move, citing that it will cause more issues for them and make it more dangerous.

All this bill does is allow victims to sue the websites if the websites knowingly facilitated sex trafficking. This is gonna be a can of worms of internet censorship in the name of “the children”. And was once again, a sledgehammer taken to an ancillary issue to the real problem. If sex work wer
e legal and regulated, much as it is in Nevada, the problem would begin to reduce itself.

Exactly, but that would mean we would have to give people more freedoms and that is not going to happen with this administration, or any other admin that I can think of in the near future.

This should read “trump makes a bill to police what people can see on the internet..”

Anyone who has read the law knows it is ridiculous..

It requires service providers to moderate every single website and partition off all pornography..

There is no way to do that without monitoring every persons internet surfing..

It is a ridiculous law that will effect all of us, and likely won’t stop one pedophile..

Aka it is the patriot act the sequel..

That's the rub. Why should the people even have to ask the jerks we elect into office to grant us freedoms.

Unless they are smart enough to see through the propaganda and can tell this is garbage meant to cherry pick what people view on the internet..

All freedoms come from the government...

All ownership comes from the government..

You don’t own your land.. the US government allows you to own that land. If the government vanished tomorrow. You don’t own your land. The local warlord does..

That’s why all the “government is the problem” stuff is propaganda meant for stupid people..

I wonder if he realizes this is the Deep State way to doom the future of internet, disguised so that Trump can appease his evangelical contributors.

He'll sign whatever they put in front of him. So sad.

facilitated sex trafficking

Why is there no definition of what Trump means by this? So if I send a provocaative message to a friend on Facebook will I be accused of "trafiicking"? Feminists and conservatives seem to think that means any sexual anything that a man does so this is a very slippery slope.

A government of, for and by who? A government in itself owns nothing. A government has no money. That is merely propaganda meant for useful idiots.

President Trump Signs Bill To Significantly Reduce Online Sex Trafficking.

Anyone that thinks this isn't the first step in internet censorship is a fool.

I use the same argument when people want to ban "assault" rifles.
But I'm assured that they are not coming for my guns.
So don't worry, they're not coming for your internet...

Or maybe victims of sex trafficking aren't as important as victims of gun crimes because they don't make as good of headlines.

reddit has already closed or banned discussion in several vaping, guns, home brew beer, cigars, whiskey, subs because they did not want to be liable if someone underage followed a link from their website. This new bill would make them liable.
