I vote Thomas Massie to replace him.

Glad to see Ryan going--he had me duped a little back in his run for VP back in 2011, but that quickly faded.

Massie is a logical, very constitution-oriented congressman, and I think that he would be great in such a position. The only problem is that, being that way, most other congressmen would work against him, so he wouldn't be able to bring everyone together in many instances.

I would still love to see him in that position, though, based on principle alone.

YOU may not care that much, but I highly doubt you are speaking for "most of you". Furthermore, that is irrelevant to Ryan being a conservative or not. Ryan is a conservative whether you like the guy or not.

Just seeing if I'm following some the comments; Paul Ryan =/= a conservative while Donald Trump = a conservative.

I suggest Mr. Ryan announce that his favorite book is the Bible. It will dispel all doubt on his conservatism.

I am thinking about the power we have. I'm counting down the days until Nov 6th and we can elect a true check on Trump's Presidency since the clowns currently in office have all had their spines removed by Trump.

Same thing happened with Obama's presidency, especially in the first two years. Then once we had a sort-of balance of power without everything being controlled by the Dems, nothing got done because Obama would veto most things that were passed that didn't align with his agenda.

Now we're looking into a funhouse mirror and seeing the exact opposite but the same result.

What's sad is that, during these times of total control (party-wise) of the executive and legislative branches, the spines should be stiffer than the effects of Viagra.

That just shows you that no one has spines in politics, or very few, no matter who is in charge. When you're the minority party or you know that you can pass anything to appease a party-line because it won't get signed into law anyhow, that's the only time that there is any semblance of backbone.

And that only fools the apathetic, with whom the country is heavily populated.

I'd have much more respect for a politician and they told the truth that their favorite book is Game of Thrones.

I'd prefer to see the return of moderatism and compromise because things actually get done that way, but in the age of Trump that is unlikely since he skews towards the extreme end of his party.

So now conservatism is directly related religion? Are you just joking and being sarcastic like the rest of your posts on this site?

You guys still don't get it.

The Republican party has two wings. This is what the Trump election was all about. You have the establishment RINO republicans and you have the libertarian/anti-establishment Republicans. The RINOs are globalist, big govt, open border, types.

It isn't much different how on the left you have the Bernie kumbaya progressives and then you have the establishment Dems like Hillary.

The difference is on the right, Trump won while Democrats successfully squashed Bernie.

The RINOs hate Trump just as much as you lefties. The RINOs would have preferred Hillary won because they are basically the opposite side of the same coin. Sure there are some disagreements, but in general, it is a globalist agenda and about self-enrichment of politicians.

Trump is protectionist. About bringing jobs back to the blue collar middle america that both parties have written off.

Recall, RINOs during the primary were all for open borders until Trump even made it an issue. RINOs were for TPP. RINOs were for NAFTA.

Trump is fighting TWO fronts. The RINOs in the Republican party and the leftists in the Democrat party.

Ryan is leaving because the RINO agenda has been blocked. He is also probably preparing to run in 2020.

Lol. No I get it. Y'all like to make tests to be a true Republican/conservative and use the RINO acronym to discredit people who aren't extreme enough for you guys.

It isn't much different how on the left you have the Bernie kumbaya progressives and then you have the establishment Dems like Hillary.

Well except that on the left we don't actively try to label people as not liberals just because they aren't liberal enough. There is barely anyone (if there is anyone at all) using the acronym "DINO".

PLEASE stop using the acronym RINO, show that you aren't insane and call them by their actual names. Moderates. Sheesh... Part of the problem with our country is extremists such as yourself constantly making it seem like being a moderate is somehow the worst thing in the world because they may agree with some liberal concepts. Have you not realized yet that this idiocy is creating the hyper-partisan climate we are currently dealing with where neither side wants to agree with the other?

So a Trump presidency continues to pay dividends. I don't know why so many common folk hate him so much.

Because I know many conservatives that aren't religious and many liberals that are. I guess I asked a serious question to the wrong poster, so just disregard. Continue on with the jokes, ATS needs them.

Yeah, and sadly, so does probably 75% of everyone in government. It didn't used to be this way, at least when it finally came time to sit down and figure things out.
