Again another interesting reply, cheers.
So have the games damaged business then not increased revenue from foreign tourists?

Tourists?

Who flys anywhere to go to the com games, other than the athletes and there families/friends....the Olympics it is not.

And yes, many damaged buisinesses. The Gov spent the last 6 months spending yet more of our money to tell us how insanely busy the area was going to be, to the point where there were recommending not to use the main roads in and out of the coast, and extra trains were being put on...blah blah blah.....it's all BS. People who normally hit the coast are staying well clear, BECAUSE of the gov ads. Some bars and clubs are reporting worst takings ever...
Now the asshat ex premier in charge of the fiasco is saying oh no it's not quiet it's "patchy".....yeah I'm sure the clubs where all the event organisers (read cronies) are gathering to spend there "allowances" are doing just fine. Perspective right?

No tourists.

Massive bills.

No flow on.

Mountains of unsold tickets.

I like sport.....a lot, I don't like paying for BS junkets for politicians and there cronie friends.
I really resent having these royal azz holes in the country, Charles is a giant bloated douchebag + more $$$$ for security.
There's so much more, but, I'm falling into a rant......I'm sure you can find out the general opinion down here without much Google fu......

Feel free to rant away

It seems the Commonwealth games is a poisoned chalice then, I wonder why Oz decided to host it. I agree about Charles, it almost seems to be the Crown games, like Britain is still pretending to have an empire.
So is the general consensus that it has cost you guys too much then?
...at least you seem to have won most of the medals.

EDIT
So who is making the money do you think? It's why I put this thread in the conspiracy forum not sports. The whole thing seems shady to me.

A third of the world's countries are members of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The Commonwealth Games are a more calm and laid-back version of the over-commercialised and politicised Olympics.

The Empire went years ago. The Commonwealth remains, and is a force for good. The participating nations have a common connection via their recent history. I think the UN could learn a thing or two from the Commonwealth's approach to things.

This is how I see the Commonwealth games too.
We have had members join later who have nothing to do with the "old Days" of the Empire.
The parts I've managed to catch have been good too.

Out of the 53 countries only two have no constitutional history with Britain, Mozambique and Rwanda. It is the Empire in all but name as far as I see things.
With her Maj being head of the commonwealth.

I just think it's a good way to help get past our "bad" history with these countries and build a better and more constructive relationship.
It might also help with trade after Brexit?!?!

Good point, I bet there's allsorts of shady dealing and networking going on between the various nations 'official' representatives in Gold Coast hotels right now.
The games are the ultimate symbol of the ̶e̶m̶p̶i̶r̶e̶ Commonwealth of Nations.
