Dutch lawyer Alex van der Zwaan, the son-in-law of Russian oligarch German Kahn, was sentenced to 30 days in prison on Tuesday for lying to federal investigators about his contacts with senior Trump campaign official Rick Gates as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe.

Van der Zwaan was given the first sentence in Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling and potential collusion with Trump campaign associates during the 2016 presidential election.

If it's FOX it must be TRUE.

So the first sentence is in. To refresh your memory: Van Der Zwaan was the "cut out" between Trump campaign co-chair Rick Gates and "Person A,, " believed to be Konstantin Kilimnik, a longtime associate of Paul Manafort,

Note that Fox did not mention what Van Der Zwaan lied about. Fair and balanced, yep.

Well, regardless of political affiliation, lying under oath is a crime and he should be sentenced. It doesn't prove any collusion at all though, just that this person lied under oath.

But it does raise the question: "Why did he choose to lie? What was he attempting to cover up?"

from your link

Van der Zwaan is accused of lying about his last communication with former Trump campaign adviser Rick Gates, who was indicted in October along with former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on charges related to their work in Ukraine.

Yes, it does. But, that is not proof of anything. What it does prove is that when someone is under oath when questioned, and they are found to have lied, they will get sentenced. If they are not under oath when being questioned, then there are no repercussions at all if found to have lied.

From the "Breaking Political News" thread:

The court document notes that van der Zwaan said he “did not know why an email between him and Person A in September 2016 was not produced to the Special Counsel’s Office” and that his last communication with Gates was in August 2016. It also says he claimed that his last communication with an unidentified “Person A” was in 2014.

Sounds pretty trivial to me.

They updated the story. Initially it was just the two paragraphs I quoted in the OP.

One wonders if the same charges will be filed for those found to have problems in the upcoming ig report that will be looked into by prosecutor huber?
You know not providing emails that the government has demanded, and misremembering conversations....equal justice and all...

The Justice Department is being run by Trump appointees. What do you think?

Nope. Mueller is doing his job. Sessions and Rosenstein need to smoke a few Obama appointees if they want Trump to let them keep their jobs.

Hmmm...
2012-2014. Who was in charge then , pray tell ?
I keep saying , I have a firm belief Mueller and company are feinting to mislead on what the investigation is truly about...

Yeah I was just about to quote this from the other thread:

Van der Zwaan was charged by Mueller’s team with making false statements to investigators in an interview about his time working for a law firm hired by the Ukraine Ministry of Justice in 2012, when he helped produce a report on the trail of Ukrainian politician Yulia Tymoshenko.

Once again this has nothing to do with Trump.
