I doubt they have had many geologist over the last 1000 years but you ask them about the Quran or which goat is the best and they will have the answer on the tip of their tongues.. Also not knowing one rock from another along with no infrastructure for delivery and export, probably has allot to do with it. Now that the Poppy exports seem to be doing quite well in the transportation department, as far as getting stuff out of country, all might solve the extraction problem for the minerals..?

I am not there so totally speculation on my part as all my contacts have retired or are dead...
