CIA: Iraq War Feeds Terrorism

In his first public appearance as U.S. spymaster, Goss described Iraqi insurgents, including al Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, as part of a Sunni militant movement inspired by Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) and intent on attacking Americans.
"The Iraq conflict, while not a cause of extremism, has become a cause for extremists," Goss told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
"Those jihadists who survive will leave Iraq experienced in and focused on acts of urban terrorism. They represent a potential pool of contacts to build transnational terrorist cells, groups and networks in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other countries," he said.

In my opinion, this is major, major news. It is a break from the policy of the executive office (Iraq war = Democracy = Good) and we are seeing a clear division or opinion developing here.

Can we agree now that the war on terror has little to do with the war on Iraq?

This is the same CIA that gave Mr. Bush faulty intelligence of Saddam's WMDs, correct?

Yes, their intel on Iraq was wrong so far as we can see, but what strikes me about this statement is that it comes so quick on the heels of Intel Reform. The CIA's power has been largely usurped by the Pentagon now, if I am reading the Intel Reform information correctly. Interesting how we see a little more truthfulness coming from them now.

When was the last time the CIA directly contradicted the policies of a ruling American administration?

Good find smallpeeps.

Hmmm. Looks like a policy shift. Maybe Bush is ready to leave Iraq, or "Take the Oil and Run," to coin a phrase..

Wonder who's next on the menu?

The war in Iraq has opened a Pandora's box of terrorism where little to none existed. It's demonic. So, who's clearly the bigger terrorist?

Uh.. no. You mean to say, the CIA that Cheney leaned all over. His goons over at OFFICE OF SPECIAL PLANS (at the Pentagon) finally gave 'em the cherry picked crap they called intelligence.

Those in the CIA who told the administration the truth about Saddam and what he did NOT have (weapons, connections) were run outta dodge. Most of them are now no longer with the company b/c of the whole rotten deal.
