So this is just for people whom are "abused" verbally "day in and day out"?

How many consecutive days in a row of this "abuse" must go on before qualifying for police intervention?

What exactly amounts to "abuse"? Where is the list of words, and combinations thereof that count as "abuse"?? What is the grace period people have to learn these words and rules specifics before they face the heavy hand of the LAW???

Do you people have even the foggiest notion of FREEDOM OF SPEECH? Is it even possible for any of you to grow a pair?? How about, someone insults you, you insult them back and carry on??? You both might just have a laugh about it afterwards, whereas someone calls the POLICE on me about ANYTHING and theres no coming back from that (especially if its something petty youll never ever ever gain my respect again). The bridge isnt burned, its vaporized. But maybe thats the point?

OP is over-reacting spectacularly.

A hate crime is a defined criminal act that was motivated by racial hatred. So attacking a muslim for being a muslim would be a hate crime, and also an assault crime. It would make the assault charge ever so slightly more serious.

Simply hating on it's own is not a crime.

If someone does something that isn’t a criminal offence but the victim, or anyone else, believes it was motivated by prejudice or hate, we would class this as a ‘hate incident’. Though what the perpetrator has done may not be against the law, their reasons for doing it are. This means it may be possible to charge them with an offence.

The UK is really taking Proverbs 4:23 seriously, even to the point of making sure that your thoughts run, or ruin, your life.

Straight out of George Orwell's, 1984: “The most gifted of [the Proletariate], who might possibly become a nuclei of discontent, are simply marked down by the Thought Police and eliminated.”

Though I don't agree with U.S. hate crime law, at least you have to commit an actual crime to be charged with a hate crime!

Im from the UK.

I hate you for lying about this

I hate your for kibelling my country

I hate you for lying about our rights fror your ow miusguided opinipn based on no evdidence

I hate you for spreading this message and scare mongering on clear lies, ignorance or orinnability understand the law.

OK, this is why I have a problem with "hate" crimes.

Does the motive make the assault "hurt" more?

I am pretty sure that if an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend lashes out at his or her former squeeze and does damage, they were motivated by hate, but we don't call it a "hate" crime.

Does that mean the ex somehow "hates" less and the person they assaulted is "less" assaulted?

Somehow, I don't think so.

Europe is still scarred by the horrors that arose from WWII. And they are still trying to legislate a cure for themselves.

"Thought crime?" Do you honestly, genuinely believe this? Is it maybe possible that the UK has people hating each other (Left, Right and centre) and they aren't being arrested and prosecuted? Is there any evidence that UK Facebook, or UK Twitter, is some barren ground devoid of insults and hate? Are our football and rugby terraces now silent apart from 'hate thinkers' being dragged into convoys of waiting police vans?

I've had a few 'hateful' thoughts at the recent BS threads and posts about the UK. I guess arrest is imminent?

...or nothing is happening because it's just the internet losing its #ing mind over the latest hysteria.

Someone should report the UK government.

No.

Someone needs to call the Mod Squad to gather up all the walking braindead into Fema camps.

Because apparently all you people instantly believe every goddamn thing you read on the internet these days and jump to make a thread about it on ATS to whore for stars and flags.

It's gotten so pathetically stupid around this place, it's not even worthwhile popping by any more.

Deny ignorance indeed.

It's like the world has been turned on its head lately. The UK is under Sharia Law one week and a police state the next. All of it asserted by proclamations on social media and defended to the last full stop...

To quote POTUS, "So sad."

If you're so upset about the OP, and the contents within, then why don't you just refute it, instead of throwing a tantrum?

I don't live in the UK, so I have no idea what's going on there. Many here on ATS don't either. But there have been many claiming to be from the UK on here claiming the same thing as the OP.

Give us your own sources, help clear this up. From where I'm standing it's looking like Europe as a whole is turning into a big socialist government controlled state quite remenicent of Nazi Germany. But I don't live there. I'm in Colorado, USA.

Please, let us ignorant fools in on the real low down. Thanks.

How is the member going to prove a negative?

There is a rubbish article basically making stuff up and you want links to prove people aren't arrested for hating.... Like really?

Cranialsponge is right, it's stupid that people believe this crap at face value.

The OP's link goes directly to the London Met's own website. The advice about hate crimes is the way the police see it.

Some of the leaps of deduction from the article are quite amazing. Those two people were turned away from the UK last week and (coincidently) it's been a reactionary 'UK sucks' storm in a teacup since.

I live in England and, supposedly, can hardly move between the Muslims, Sharia Law and police convoys taking people away for thinking. Funnily enough, we don't have food queues either and people still buy status items in spite of apparently being a Commie state.

I really couldn't care less. I'm sick of that tactic from both sides, honestly.

The OP is making a claim. So far, the opposition has nothing but "that's stupid" type comments.

To be honest... the one thing that raised alarm bells about the UK for me was when I saw a video of a man with a sign, saying something like "Im open to discussion" regarding the immigrant problem...and he was swarmed by a mob, just for saying something totally normal.

Maybe I'm jaded. Maybe the OP is jaded and wrong. But there is a reason people think this way. If you don't want to "prove a negative", fine. But it won't stop the questions. Too bad if that offends you.

Do you really think there will be articles about someone hating and not being arrested for it?

No, I dont. Then again, I don't trust the main stream media either. I tend to look at the perspective of people on the ground making their own reports.

If you and cranial are in the UK and you say all is OK? Good. Noted.

You do have food queues, it's just the are at the kebab shop, Friday and Saturday night after an evening of pints.

It's bizarre to watch this unfold, personally I think people are so unhappy these days they are just itching to point the finger and say.. " see you guys have it way worse than us".

Now in saying that no doubt our freedoms are being slowly whittled away, but that just seems par the course for all western nations currently.

That makes sense. There's also a degree of dragging everyone else down too.
