If you knew a nuclear missile was inbound to your area, and you had an hour before it hit....

Find a nice spot with a good view and ensure i've got a nice supply of beer and just pop down a chair and relax and let what happens happen.

I'd check CNN to see where the polls say it is most likely to hit.

Then I would go there.

a reply to: Gazrok I have lost alot of time playing on that site. But after a while you end up just seeing how much destruction you could cause which is cool I guess but also gets old.

Nuke map is a great tool. I've played around with it a lot.

My conundrum is that I've got the Airforce Academy to the north, Falcon AFB to the East, Peterson AFB to the southeast, FT. Carson and NORAD to the south/southwest. The only option is to go due west into the mountains.

With that said, maybe being surrounded by so many military bases would offer some type of protection? Doubtful when it comes to nukes but who knows. Hard to say depending on the scenario.

I would secure a large diesel truck and head north. Raid along the way.

Head to a cave system with nearby running water. Probably near Bear mountain, so maybe even head to west point.

If not head north when enough provisions are secured to endure a winter seclusion. In the Spring we would dash towards the Canadian wilderness.

Pick up survivors along the way. Help others and help ourselves. We would try to outlive the reprisal attacks by who ever nuked us and got nuked in the process. Maybe if there is still a semblance of order left after all that we can all enlist to rebuild the ruins. If not we go native and start a tribe /clan in the woods.

I want to construct a great tribe hall / long house, where we all gather and drink beer that we learned to brew out of maple syrup and honey.

Fortunately, we live in rural Mississippi, not near a military base, but in fairly warm weather, on a big piece of land.

We have deer, rabbits, Turkey, wild hogs surrounding us, and a half mile pond full of bass and perch.

Lots of wood for fires.

Irony is that we're likely in just about the best situation we could possibly be in.

If it came about, knowing that we're in a situation that many city folk would seek out, I wouldn't bunker down and fire shots. I would barter and trade for what we have, primarily looking for medical care and a handy man, trade on Turkey, fish, and deer (though I don't think they'd thrive in a situation where they became a primary food source.

Hell, there's even snakes and squirels around if it got real bad. My daughter wouldn't like eating them but better than starving.

We'd likely be ok.

I live just outside of the capital beltway. I'd make a few phone calls, drive as close to the city as possible and get to high ground. I want to be obliterated, pulverized, incinerated, turned to dust, turned into a shadow on a wall. Because if I survive, there's no way I'm getting to safety before my skin starts melting and body parts start coming off. (Read some accounts from Hiroshima survivors if you want to know what it's really like just after a nuclear blast.)

I would start a petition to ban nuclear weapons, because banning things like that keeps the mean people from getting nukes.

Easy!! I live in the coast so I would hit the local air port hijack the nearest private jet and put my PS4 flying skills to work...With an hour I figure I could be well out of the country before it hits....

1hr until impact?

A bottle of scotch, my wife, the hottie two doors down that keeps offering...and, if I have enough time left, a lawn chair on the roof with my best shades on, to enjoy the show.

Or I hit the highway and am quite a ways out of a 100MT blast radius, if a certain nuclear website is to be believed.

Pfft, it will hit while I am still trying to decide on the option to go with.

Why not raise the minimum age to buy nuclear weapons.

It's only common sense.

And you'd die.

But, you'd be sure of your purity beforehand.

I don't mean to interrupt the thread, but you did put this here for a reason.

I'm sure Fox would give you great information. I would either go where Fox told you, or do your plan, I think that's perfect.

An hour isn't enough time. I'm too close to targets of strategic value. The roads north are a parking lot on holiday weekends, so I can only imagine what they'd be like with 95% of the metropolis trying to desperately escape doom. South is a similar story with another large strategic target waiting for me. Terrain is not favourable. Prevailing winds blow the same directions most likely to lead to success on egress, so I'd probably be in a bad way long term. If I could get out, I'd probably head North or NE. Have property/supplies available north, but I don't imagine property rights are going to be a chief concern of the times.
I'd probably be better off sitting tight and hoping I'm far enough from the blast site to survive the initial carnage. Plenty of food to wait out the crowds exposed going different directions. Maybe get reliable info on shortwave before making a move.

In fact, we do outlaw some of the critical materials, because it is common sense.

And we've pushed for international law not allowing proliferation, because it is common sense that the more there are, the more likely one gets in the wrong hands are is fired.

I would come on ATS and bitch that the 2nd Amendment should have allowed me to have my own weapons so that I could counter the attack.

Seriously, i will call all my family and friends and let them know i love them. That would likely take up the whole hour.

Unless a teenage boy trying to impress his girlfriend breaks in to a top secret laboratory and steals the special kind of sauce and builds one to win a New York science fair.

Then it's gets real man.

REAL.
