It's discrimination. Imagine changing 18-20 to black and see how well it goes over.

I'm a big believer that the court of public opinion and the ability to boycott places with our wallets is a better way to handle things in a free society.

Like I said, Dick's is the ONLY place that sells guns in that area. The 20 year old clearly had no other options and was forced to sue Dick's. He shows great character for being so brave, how else would he acquire a gun if not through Dick's?

You're right, age limits are totally the same as racial discrimination. I should take up the issue of my 12 year old not being able to buy liquor with the NAACP.

It barely applies to the government..

Look up the history of the second amendment.. it has only been sites once concerning personal gun ownership and that was in 2008.

Arbitrary age limits.

If you adhere to the idea that 21 is the legal age for maturity, then you are against abortions below that age, correct?

It doesn’t matter.. there are internet sales. there are gun shows.

The Supreme Court ruled the states/fed has a right to district the kind and amount of guns people can have, as well as has the right to assign places as gun free zones. As long as it isn’t the whole town.

People have no idea what the legal standing of the second amendment actually is.

Radiolab did a history of it last episode.

If sub 21 year olds aren’t responsible enough to buy liquor then they’re certainly not mature enough to have a baby.

I'll rephrase: A company not owned by government.

I didn't think that I needed to make that distinction, but there you go.

We have anti-monopoly laws in our country, so if a company has truly gotten that out-of-control, there are ways to deal with it. Dick's and Walmart, though, may be stamping out mom-and-pops, but there is still plenty of competition. Where I live, there are tons of other places to buy firearms, and I have never considered buying one from Dick's before. I bought a small Mossberg 20-guage from Walmart years ago, but that was simply because I was there and I wanted it. I wouldn't have had any issues going to a smaller gun shop to purchase the same shotgun.

And where I live, there is a Bass Pro Shops and Cabella's, on top of the Walmarts, Dick's (plural), and the Field & Stream.

And as for Walmart, I have not purposefully shopped there in years, because we have plenty of other stores that serve the same purpose and in much better ways.

But to reiterate, when I say "private company," I using laymen's terms, not hyper-correct economy-major definitions; I mean non-government owned businesses.

That guy needs to grow a pair and stop crying. If a store want's to restrict who it sells to then so be it. Don't shop there. Shop out of state. Shop online. Etc Etc Etc. Let the Free Market decide.

Ok, since you're against age limits then would you be ok with Dick's selling guns to black kids from the hood below the age of 18? I mean, they need self defense where they live.

There are many factors in abortions, a rape baby being one such factor.

You must have missed the sarcasm in my post. If you clicked the link you'd have seen there are dozens of gun shops in Portland.

I was hoping that someone would stand up for their rights.

What rights?

The 2nd Amendment does not apply to businesses only the government. A business has the right to decide who it sells guns too.

The 2nd is irrelevant in this case.

Ummm...and yet...one can be forced as a business owner by law...to sell a cake to an individual that you chose not to...because of anti discriminatory statutes...

So there is precedence...and this 20 year old just might have a case...

Imagine that...

But we don't let 14 year old kids drive, we don't let kids by smokes or alchohol and we have an age limit to vote, and join the military.

Stop being racist.
