One more from the 80's. Local heroes and leaders of the Paisley Underground movement.

Laughing silently, deliciously, I am taken back to the day a friend er ... got a paper and played Traffic's Paper Sun, a song that was 18 years old at the time and it was the coolest thing I had ever heard, until the next song played, or a bird chirped, or a sink dripped... you get the picture.

So the music is wonderful, but couldn't have been without the diligent, sometimes accidental, work of chemists... .just sayin' ever so roundaboutly.

And that song totally flashed me back to that rainy day! What a genre!

And yeah, Psychic TV... just look at Genesis now ; )

Hello fellow birthday year chums. I was also 9 in '67 and I liked a bunch of the songs posted here (and even remember the words; go me LOL).

Thanks for the memories OP.

Goes to prove you didn’t need to be on psychedelics to enjoy the music of that era . I think many enjoyed it without , in our age bracket at least.😏

In the mid 60's I had a fuzz box-plug in directly to my guitar...(Vox)...and a little switch on it... One of the 1st of its kind. The first few songs using distortion was "Heart of Soul"-the Yardbirds..."Satisfaction"-Rolling Stones..."Tobacco Road"-Blues Magoos...among others....

The distorted guitar sound was an invention of Dave Davis of The Kinks. It was first ever heard on " You Really Got Me " from 1964.

I hate to nitpick but Link Wray and others were exploring distorted guitar tones years before the Kinks. The article you linked has a quite a few comments citing Wray's "Rumble" as the beginning of it all. The Kinks still rule BTW

That was their rep. For all the debate over the birth of heavy metal, my vote goes to them. They were so loud, so totally blasting that all you could do at the concerts I attended was dance and scream along with them.
Another of my favorites from those SF times were the Sons of Champlin.
Here are two of their offerings.

How can you bring up Psychedelia and not talk about the all time best Psychedelic band?

Doors' 'Light my Fire' was good but 'Blue Bus' and 'Riders on the Storm', to me, were much more memorable.

imagine sitting a Saturday morning in the house, rain falling, and one of those songs comes on...
