Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump declared on Thursday he was considering withdrawing Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from California as punishment for what he claimed was a "lousy management job" in patrolling illegal immigration.
"You know what, I'm thinking about doing it," Trump said at a roundtable with state and local officials to address ideas to stop gun violence in the wake of the Parkland school massacre. His comments came after he decried the state of law enforcement in the Golden State.

Trump says he's thinking about pulling ICE from California

Hmmm. Seriously?

If Trump want to pull out of the state and not enforce the Constitutional requirement to protect the Union, to wit:

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

ahem Article 4, Section 4, Clause 2

If that's the case, then perhaps we should be keeping our Federal Tax dollars no? Somebody please get this fool a cliffnotes version of the constitution. mean since we give more than we take back perhaps its time to look to our own welfare if the Feds are threatening to abdicate their duties. This is going to get worse mind you when Session(s) marches in and starts the pot raids too.

If someone comes here illegally do they get charged with a crime or just deported? I can see where one may think this applies to a “alien” but it doesn’t.

I hope he does too to be honest. Enough dicking around with his BS threats. Do it.

California represents a HUGE chunk of the GDP of the country as a whole and gets less back in taxes than we pay. Why should we pay taxes if the feds are abdicating their duties ???

Maybe he should go in and jail the sanctuary city people instead?

Or maybe the legal residents should take care of them.

Didn't California pass legislation making it harder for ICE to do their job? Sounds like California doesn't want ICE working there anyway.

In the United States and Canada, a sanctuary city (French: ville sanctuaire, Spanish: ciudad santuario) is a city that limits its cooperation with the national government effort to enforce immigration law

Perhaps, but where does that stand from a Constitutional standpoint? Is the State OBLIGATED to provide that sort of aid to a Federal agency? Its not clear as it has not really been tested in court despite rhetoric from both sides.

Decent primer on the issue unless your buying into the war on the press then It wont be of much help

It is a mockery in its current state.

A partial shutdown and reevaluation is in order I think.

The state legislature can decide what their actual purpose is and then tell ICE their new mission in California.

Allocate resources accordingly. If its a revolving door of information booth federal offices staffed by big butt do nothings then cut it back to size from what it is.

Dont people want ICE gone anyways in Cali? I genuinely thought they would be stoked.

Trump may be using reverse psychology and it may be working....lol

My point exactly. The whole state is not playing ball. Trump should take his ball with his ICE agents and go home (I just flashed to a Trumpian Cartman saying 'Screw you guys I'm going Home" and we should keep our tax dollars. Which may be Putins plan all along, but heck im in.

Perhaps on the Immigration aspect but ICE is more than harassing green card holders at the airport and rounding up illegal aliens. Were talking the Customs part which generates revenue, fighting human trafficking etc. All of that is still necessary

I replied to someone else but the gist is: ICE is more than harassing legit green card holders, and rounding up illegals. If you look at their wiki page:

en.wikipedia.org...

They cover alot of other territory so pulling them out is actually a big deal. But I view it as a first step to booting the feds out of the state. You could make a case at that point that the Federal government has abdicated its sovereignty over California thus paving its was to secede.

What if its all a criminal network and the illicit services illegal aliens use represent a billion dollar business that must be countered with the rule of the law....by making sure people arent breaking our immigration laws.

Let them do their job. Sending mixed messages to a fellow governmental entity by curbing its ability to do its job has consequences.

These are it. This had to be said. Its like telling the cops to not patrol a block where all the guns and drugs are being sold from. Literally and figuratively in this case.

I watched that, but saw it as just sarcasm aimed at the State that refuses to accommodate ICE doing it's job.

It was dumb and not something a President should say, but I doubt it was a serious threat. If it was then he needs to rethink that. Works both ways though and California needs to work with ICE and not block them or knowingly let criminals free just to spite them.

The State of California seems to be abdicating it's duties at the moment by not doing everything they can to stop the flow of drugs and human traffickers by working with the Feds, instead of against them for purely partisan reasons. It does work both ways.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Trump, but I think knee jerk reactions to every stupid thing he says is just as bad as what he says. If he was serious, he's wrong, but I highly doubt that. All politicians say crazy crap they don't really mean. We all know that.

This is the problem though. We have seen stupid crap come out before and it turns into an agenda item and some sort of Executive order.

Its not entirely knee jerk. Ive long believed that California would be better off on its own (perhaps paired with Washington and Oregon) and this fool may actually provide a pathway that has never existed to make that happen.

I'm sure a hawaiian judge will step in and make the feds do their job.

What's cali's non co operation, tho? Seriously.

What I just saw was, it's about MS-13.

So California doesn't want ICE there they want CE there. I wasn't aware states could cherry pick what benefits them and disregard the other bits.
