Hi folks, just viewed a new sword & sandals flick, The Fall of Troy based on the Iliad , so far not bad, waiting to see more character development, some nudity ,cast kinda diverse without being insulting to anyone's intelligence, when you guys have time check it out.

A series or a movie?

The mythical nature of the Greek's hero is possibly actual history verses myth. After all, Achilles was only human. Greek gods might be the myth part but Achilles I suspect was real and was killed on the battlefield as the Iliad story goes. Fascinating that Archaeologist have found what we believe to be Troy.

If you're referring to this then I won't be watching it - since when was Achilles black skinned?

There is a lot of discussion around the casting of Achilles in the media already. Excellent discussion here:-

First episode was ok but not great, bigger casting issue for me was having Menelaus played by the scrote who was Robin Hood in another BBC series - that sucked.

For mythical heroes they were all a bit dirty beardy

Why the fk did they do that?? Now I have to walk back the insult the intelligence thing, they misuse diversity in this case as there were a number of Ethiopian characters in the Iliad such as Memnon who did epic battle with Achilles. Sigh!!..

I went to see that with friends, and we laughed our asses off:

Greeks in yurts

hobnail sounds from sandals on sand

a city surrounded by little but sand

a stone city on fire

"Hector! Hector! Hector! Hector!..."

Now, I will wonder if we ever saw an African based God in Greece?

I don't recall one.

Just came across to me as more Robin Hoodie than Robin Hood. Guy of Gisbourne played by Rich Armitage was the star of the show for me.

wiki

The early Greek-Roman gods & goddesses such as Apollo, Zeus, Hercules, Athena, Venus, were all Black, being renditions of the Black Egyptian gods. The historian Herodotus himself wrote “the names of nearly all the gods came to Greece from Egypt.”Sep 18, 2015

You have an interesting background Light.

As for the video you left, that's a little too bad boy, even for me. But he did a great job, impressive.

Well like Construction said, the later Greeks linked their own to the older Egyptian Gods, but in the case of the Iliad they really didn't need to compensate for black characters, they were built into the story itself, I mean Priam was uncle to the Black skinned, golden crested Memnon for chrissakes and his 10,000 Ethiopian warriors, who bought much honor to the battle field, I was hoping that's the direction they were headed.

Well that is interesting and I never saw any Egyptian Gods that looked Negroid. We got any pics of this stuff. The Blacks I recall in depictions in the glyphs, just as were most of the other non Egyptians, they were usually castrated,. Of course I am sure, the women were taken like Isis would do them.
