Well there aren't really any bands since the 80's/90's that truly embrace the true nature of punk rock. Like you said, it's a music style AND a mindset.

Punk hasn't died, it's just gone back underground, and most us have jobs now. We'll be punkers every 12th week on Sunday, in the mean time gotta work to pay all the fawking bills. And my job won't let me have a mohawk, I actually did ask recently.

I fawking sold out....

Yeah, there's still an underground scene of that kinda punk band. I went to a festival in Portsmouth a few years back, there was all the oldies trying to make mortgage payments, some form of The Damned played, but there were a lot of bands making that 80s sound. I didn't particularly enjoy it, got roped in my the girlfriend... and to me, it didn't seem punk at all, young bands just aping what had previously been done.

It bothers me when bands are lazy and don't bother to make anything new, but it also bothers me when hipsters try to cash in on something for cool points. I guess I'm just difficult. The band I "ethically" and musically get along with the most is probably Fugazi, I love the Kennedys, but the rest of the band should be ashamed of themselves - at least Jello is still making interesting music.

Punk music typically doesn't pay, so we rarely get good bands anymore. Your probably not difficult, just picky, and we punkers don't get that luxury of having big labels finance us, so it remains undergound for the most part.

There is great punk all around in every city, but no-one knows of it.

Nothing good or punk about this at all. Greenday and Rancid are also not punk.

The endless categorisation of music. To be honest, the OPs vid seemed like acoustic rap, but if they want to call it punk then who cares? One thing's for sure though, what people classify as punk in the US is a tad different from what us Brits call punk.

Anyway, here's a list of music genres.

Music genres

Oh dear, what is this music?? The only real punk was in the 70s, and pretty much died by the early 80s, replaced by New Romantic, New Wave, la la la boompt tee ayyyy.
Only the Psychos carried on anything "Punkish" thru the late 80s/90s.

Now if you want to hear REAL punk.........sit down, listen and absorb......

1976....turn it up....

1977

1978..

Hope this satisfies your inner Punky.

Probably can add some early 80s "Sort of Punk"...

This is more like coffee house alt rock. Any minute there will be some slam poetry

well then bring the good punk out sir!

Oh hell, I don't listen to punk. closest I get would be the likes of paramore

Which is at best, pop punk (or emo rock, take your pick, people have been trying to label them for years)

Ultimately punk is just this, loud, fast, and aggressive rock (not metal though..just sort of the no mans land in between)...so lots of things could be called punk if its loud and fast(but not too fast)

Punk rock was predictive!

Here's some punk music that was truly predictive:

The Clash's 'Clampdown'

We will teach our twisted speech to the unbelievers
We will train our blue-eyed men to be young believers

Mission of Burma's 'That's When I Reach For My Revolver'

Once I had my heroes. Once I had my dreams
But all of that is changed now. It's twisted inside out.
The truth is not that comfortable, no.

You call this punk music because it's labeled 'Punk Tastic' or you have some sense of what punk music? It's neither. FAIL. Brush up on what punk music is -- better yet what was punk.

bro, that was the acoustic version. is this also not punk rock because it's acoustic?

No this is punk. It sounds punk. It's by a punk band. That stuff up there... doesn't sound like any punk I've ever heard.

You're giving punk a bad name.

Punk does NOT = Rap

Gwen Stephani isn't punk. That's what this sounds like. Sublime isn't Punk. It's some west coast surfer type music.

This sounds more like Bosstones does No Doubt does Eminem. Bosstones was ska. There are too many wanna be genres in this music to be anything but 'something else'.

Ramones were punk
DK were punk
Sex Pistols were punk
Black Flag were punk
Descendants were punk

This is some kind of supposed crowdsourced punk...
