Venezuela's inflation rate is currently at a mind-blowing 16,000%, and people are reporting that they see money literally thrown away in the streets, because it's so worthless.

Thousands of Venezuelans are attempting to flee the socialist dystopia their nation has become. They are attempting to make it to Colombia. In a desperate bid to escape the hunger and soaring crime rate caused by the spiraling economic crisis, fueled by socialist policies, incredible pictures have surfaced showing the mass exodus of refugees crossing the Simon Bolivar international bridge trying to flee the ongoing political crisis threatening to engulf Venezuela.

Colombia and its neighbor Brazil have both sent extra soldiers to patrol their porous borders with Venezuela after officially taking in more than half a million migrants over the last six months of 2017. The country is also tightening its border controls in a bid to stem the flow of starving people. The situation in Venezuela has reached SHTF levels.

It's unclear exactly who said it, but there's a lot of truth to "Every civilization is only 24 hours and two meals away from anarchy."

There were several reports in 2017 of people - mainly kids - dying of starvation in the failed state known as Venezuela. Food shortages, hyper inflation and mismanagement are the cause, supported by an ideologically-driven intransigence from a corrupt government. You can call it socialism if you like, but actually it's just very poor government and quasi-dictatorship

Whether it is government corruption or not, it is a socialist society. I guess socialist doctrine does not take into account people will lie, cheat, and steal to get more of what they want. Sort of a pretty large omission in that philosophy, isn't it?

Trump is a puppet, mouth piece for the deep state. But he says "We" have "many options" for Venezuela, including a military one (If the other 'measures' aren't working).

Those poor people. That is a real nightmare. Supermarkets get stripped clean of non-perishable items for black-market bartering.

My parents lived through a period of hyper-inflation when working as Western expats in Malaysia. - You had to play a game of beat-the-clock when doing supermarket shopping. Find a cash machine close to a supermarket, take out $200, rush into the supermarket and get the items you needed to make a meal (spaghetti bolognaise = mince + spaghetti + bolognaise sauce + parmesan cheese + olive oil). Rush through the supermarket grabbing the items before they increase in price too much. If you are lucky, there is no queue, and the prices haven't increased too much. Otherwise they could increase by 25% by the time you reach checkout, especially anything imported. Sometimes the checkout girl wanted some money too. Then you have to put back some items or hand over extra money. Everyone is playing that game.

I once lived in Trinidad which is a Caribbean Island that is a stone throw from Venezuela, you could actually see it from the Mountain range..

Really said as the people there are genuinely caring and very hospitable but are caught between a rock and a hard place, I do not think anyone here would have the kahunas to say if their family was starving they would not look at every possible option..

Moreover, you will not hear sweet f#ck all from the liberals as they cannot use the situation to their advantage, they are far more comfortable blaming US cultural issues even when they are caused by idiotic thinking and actions mostly caused by cultures hell bent on destroying each other...

Venezuela "should" be a stand out nation in South America but as stated above if you put a f#cking retarded idiotic socialist mindset in charge it will only end one way...

I wasn't talking about the cause, only the effect. In this case it was out-of-control corruption and mismanagement. It could just as easily result from any number of disasters, natural or artificial. Then all of us survivors end up wearing spray-painted hockey gear and driving around souped-up jalopies in a desert.

I don't understand why governments don't focus on permaculture and creating food sources on public lands everywhere...especially in a temperate climate like Venezuelan.... I would think that food would grow in abundance there

Nearly all the starvation in the entire world is the result of politics, and not food production. The United States could easily feed these people with a small fraction of the food we throw away every day. Dictators and warlords use food as a weapon.

Just because Venezuela is run by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela does not make the county or society socialist.
