I think the new version of Star Trek is something different and has definitely improved on its predecessors.

In my view its more female driven with lead characters being mostly female.

Also its progressive so it works best when you watch from the start one episode at a time.

Heres a more detailed review:

I think Star Trek Discovery is worse than Enterprise.

I really like Discovery. Michael Burnham bugs me though.

Kinda' feel like we should be following Saru.

Because she's boring as hell.

She's like Spock's annoying little sister.

Ahem.

!!!!SPOILERS!!!!

Except that it ripped off it's story line from another sifi show that was running at the time called dark matter.
Dark matter was cancelled right after star trek discovery started using their story lines.
Not that I don't like the new star trek , I do. But I also liked dark matter and feel like star trek popularity had something to do with dark matter losing ratings.
Here are the things that were the same.
Both had a one of a kind engine that would instantly "jump" the ship to any point in space. This was the main plot point for both shows.
Both engines kept breaking down so they couldn't be used.
Both ships accidentally "jumped" themselves into an alternate reality and met their evil selves.
Both ships returned to their true reality to be faced with a losing war.
dark matter was cancelled shortly after the crew returned to their reality so from here on out star trek will have to come up with their own story lines.
I hope they do more classic type of episodes like the ones involving harry mud.

I disagree. While michael is our captain kirk the male characters are well represented.
We have Michael and Captain Philippa as our main female leads. With tilly as a female supporting character.
And we have Paul Stamets, Captain Gabriel Lorca, and Ash Tyler as our male leads. With saru as a supporting character.

Dark Matter would have been better if they had Star Trek Discovery's budget.

Impossible. A flaming bag of dog # is more enjoyable to watch than enterprise.

It's a good addition to the franchise imo. I enjoyed most of it and somehow drifted off it before completing the series. Not a good sign.

The opening credits are excellently done and give it a sense of class. I'll always love the old 'It's been a long time' song, but Discovery has the better overall opening since the original show first aired.

A 2nd series will bring the characters to fleshed out reality...or the cracks will show.

So far I liked dark matter better. I might feel differently as star trek progresses.

A flaming bag of dog snip is more enjoyable to watch than two guys making out and a show that has a Klingon trapped in an earthlings body.

I thought the gay thing was trying too hard. It came over as cheesy.

It's like when they have characters belly laughing over incidents in their shared history. You know what I mean? Riker and Picard chuckling about leave on Rigel XV while Data looks bemused. It's lame.

The two guys kissing didn't bother me. In fact I thought the love shared between those two was played out in a genuine way. I felt really bad for paul when his husband died.

The klingon trapped in a human body does bother me though. I hope micheal ends up having to kill him at some point.
If your a fan of all forms of star trek you will understand why the writers added that story line. They are trying to answer a question that no one really ever asked. lol It has to do with why the klingons on the original series looked human but in all other forms they have face ridges.

The show is terrible.
It's like the writers never bothered to watch star trek.

It does bother me.

The whole premise is.

Experimental ship.

The fate of the federation at stake.

Test goes wrong.

Trapped in an alternative universe.

Always time for love!

And then the 'trans racial guy' killed one of the lovers!

Snip poor writing imo.
