The PATRIOT Act has some good aspects. For example, previously if law enforcement wanted to tap a suspects phone, they had to get a separate warrant
for each phone the suspect might use. In other words a separate warrant would have to be obtained each time a suspect used a different cell phone.
Now, law enforcement can obtain a blanket warrant for any cellphones a suspect might use. This saves time during an investigation. Also, the
provisions of the PATRIOT Act have been used to break up confeiting rings and child pornography rings as well. We seldom hear of such instances in
the news, however.
With that being said, I believe that many of the provisions of the PATRIOT Act are in fact unconstitutional and infringe upon citizens' civil
liberties. Many of these provisions pose a threat to our individual freedoms as Americans. I believe that it is time for Washington to take a long,
hard, and serious look at the PATRIOT Act. Many of its provisions should be repealed. In fact, there is a significant number of conservatives in
America who feek this way also, I being one of them.
In its current form, I believe that the PATRIOT Act should not be renewed.
