Today marks my 22nd anniversary to my lovely wife.

We met when she saw me at work, and had my sister (a coworker of hers) set us up. I had noticed her, and she checked all my boxes (short, plump, and brown), so was all too happy to accept the "blind date" that my sister had arranged.

We dated heavily immediately, and moved in together 2 months later. A month after that we planned marriage, and followed through 3 months later.

I helped her raise her son from a previous marriage (he was 2 when we wed), as well as raising a son of my own with her. My 2 boys have become good men, well respected by their peers and employers. And I have to admit: its all her. Sure im a good guy and all that....but without her I am more like a ball of potential drifting in the abyss.

It wasn't always easy...she was difficult for a heathen like me to live with at first. But we worked out all those kinks and managed to find each other in the middle. It took 5 years just for me to listen to her,and realize she wasn't simply nagging. LOL But knowing that I wanted to be with HER made making the needed changes in myself worthwhile. And the same happened with her, although she'd have to give her own story of what that meant and how she changed. In the end, she finished raising me from the petulant 20 something boy, and helped create a man worthy of raising her children.

The best thing I've ever done, folks. My only wish for the world is that everyone can have a taste of what i've enjoyed for the past 22 years.

Congratulations and it's heartwarming to hear that some dumb males manage to make the grade, stay the course and appreciate what they have found. Good men (and parents!) are what the world needs and only good parents can attain that goal.

A father is a person who raises a child (IMHO) and not necessarily the person who impregnated someone. Respect and many more happy years I wish you all.

I wish I could have done the same, alas.

ETA I wasn't calling you a dumb male (I wouldn't dare!). It was more a reference to myself. I'm a very slow learner...

That is wonderful congrat to both of you! We are going on 18 this year. After our 10th anniversary everything went by at the speed of light, and still continues to do so. There is something so sweet about getting to enjoy the later years of marriage with the one you love, it is hard to explain to people that haven't experienced it. Cheers to you!

So good to hear a happy, realistic story from someone I deeply admire! You are both smart partners. May your future continue to grow in love and support, and admiration for one another. Congrads!

Thanks for the well wishes.

Ive told folks in the past about my belief that any man who wants to be his fullest needs a strong mate pushing them and supporting their endeavors.

Of course its a 2 way street. But for my part, the relationship has made me me a better person.

She's a lucky lucky woman, I too would marry you, if nothing but for your culinary expertise - it would be all the porn I'd need.

Remember this?????????

Congrats! Had my Beloved made it a few more months we would be celebrating our 27th in March. We dated for two years, lived together for five then finally decided to put away the baggage from our earlier failed marriages and take the plunge again. Best thing ever for both of us. We were best friends. He was the best!
It always makes me happy to hear of such contentment in a marriage.

Congratulations, all around. You moved quickly, but you found someone, you loved, you worked out the kinks, and you made it work for this long not simply because it should but because you want.

You sound like a very good man, husband, and father.

Be proud. I am for you.

Congrats!

It's about the "C" word. And I mean 'commitment"! And most all of us are better off if we aren't too afraid to engage with it.

We cannot love everybody who tickles our fancy in our lives, or we wind up flopping around without stability and emotional comfort and security for most of our lives. From one person to the next. Floundering, I believe it's called.

So you take the plunge: Since I can't love everybody -- These are the people I'm going to love. This is the person I'm going to ride it out with.

Commitment. It's a good thing.

Congratulations on your anniversary, and many more to come.
