Made one of the most entertaining scenarios I've ever played in Civ 3 conquests. I'm playing America (like the F-15, though I tweaked it a little, and I love America). The setup:

I have max Culture in Washington DC to start. (border width is influenced by this, I think my border is an 8 square radius)
In each square on my border, I have a barricade (major defensive bonus)
In each square on my border, there are several units:
1 to 2 Radar artilliries (fortified, so if someone attacks me, I can hurt them for up to 2 hp; the usual unit has 4 hp, up to 5 hp. each artilliry can attack once, so after my 1 artilliry attacks, it waits for the next turn and my other units have to defend it)
8 Mechanized infantry (strongest defensive unit)
1 army (all of them I put 4 mechanized infantry which keeps the sme attack/defence values, but combines hit points, so if I'm attacked and have 5 hitpoints damage done, I don't lose a unit)

Within this radius are 6 air bases with 15 F-15s stationed at each. They're all running air superiority missions (blowing bombers out of the sky if they try t bomb within an 8 square radius of the air base) with a 20 attack instead of the usual 8 attack. Defense is up to `6 on them (they dominate the air)

Washington, my only city (I edited the slic files, so I can only have 1 city. Anything I take over is destroyed) has 20 F-15s running air superiority missions, 40 Modern Armor (24 attack, the second strongest attack unit in the game I'm playing; usually the strongest, but I'll get into that), 8 ICBMs (US is the only nation that can have nukes; this battle would be over far too early if my enemies could have them, too), and 8 armies. They all have Modern Armor attached.

America has several units no other nation can build:
ICBMs and tactical nukes
F-15s (very powerful stealth (in my world) fighter/bombers)
Modern Paratroopers (most powerful attack unit in this scenario. They have a 36 attack but only 11 defence. They can parashoot within 19 squares, but have to defend themselves before attacking, so I need to build a lot of them before going after the nearest city)
Armies (you need 4 cities for armies, so the armies I start with are all there is)

The enemy consists of 30 empires playing at SID difficulty level (the hardest). They have a locked alliance, so they always are at war with me, and never fight eachother; they share tech, as well, which takes each empire 1 turn to develop. I have all techs to start with. Took about 10 turns for them to catch up. Max number of cities per empire before they start to riot is 120; even as I wipe out empires, others can still build in their place and not suffer from side effects.

By having only 1 city, I can only build 1 unit per turn. The enemy starts with 12 offensive units and 8 defensive units per city (600 units to start) and can build 1 unit per city per turn max. The automated factory (modern factory which takes them about 4 turns to build on the superterrain I created after the 10 turns to get the tech) produces 100 shields per turn, and eradicates pollution.

This has been a blast. I haven't had the chance to take the offensive, though I have about 18 paratrooprs itching for a fight and all my F-15s. I have lost about 6 defensive armies, and my perimeter has been breached in one square. My offensive armies flattened them, tho. There are only 18 empires left, as I took advantage of my begining advantage with the paratroopers. I stil have all 8 nukes, but lost my uranium source so I won't be making any more (dang, should have build ICBMs instead of paratroopers at the beginning). hI have all my tank divisions, still, I haven't deployed them yet. Mostly playing defense except with half of my F-15s(the rest are blowing their bombers outta the sky)

THIS GAME ROCKS! Just thought I'd shar. I think I'm going to nuke babylon (really powerful in this game) and destroy it with a paratrooper. Y'all be good!

Civilization III is such a fun game but too damn hard. The farthest I have ever been is pre modern era. And I always play as the Greeks, don't know why but I do. I uninstalled it because I was so damn far in the game (well to me it was pretty damn far) and all my *allies* voted against me in the UN and bam lost the game.

Lol Nuke them babylonians
I'm not sure if you've heard JJ but Will Wright is working on another game that might just redifine what a sim is. It is called Spore.

(i have not played it yet nor have seen any screens just going by the GDC Keynote address Will Wright gave have not seen the vids only transcrips)

In the game you start off as a spore and the gameplay is alot like a fps/space invaders type fighting for survival and to evolve. When you pass that state it progresses in time to the time of the dinos and it becomes a hack & slash until you get to the next stage which is Cave men(not sure at how many stages there are going by memory here) and it starts to become more like Populace gradually turing into an Age of Empires like RTS. After technology gets mixed in then it becomes more like Sim City and after the Light Barrier is broken it becomes a Space Empire Sim. There is some Civilization gameplay around there somewhere but I'll try to find the link....

www.pcmag.com...

Basically this may be the game I have been waiting for. Will Wright may be the only person who may be able to pull it off.

To me the game is bloody impossible to play with out a trainer program. With the program I get unlimited gold and I can rush Wonders lol.

to me conquests is easier than original civ 3, ps: using greece isnt helping you either, egypt is one of the better civs to play, or persia too.

I like the Americans. But I like making my own civilization called the imperials. I give them all sorts of culture bonuses. Then I make a naval unit thats as powerful as a battleship, but is still a carrier. Then I make an F-15 with hyperstats.

Next I make an infantry unit with all sorts of abilities like hurry wonder. Only this unit is avalible from ancient times. Anyhow I then procede to build every single wonder in the game possible in my capital city, known as Imperial City.

i created a scenario as the byzantines with futureish super units, and tweaked wonders that gives 2 free advances each, puts improvements in every city and earns 5% towards my treasury, and rush them all so in 6 or 7 turns im up to the at feudalism, making 1000 gold, by 25 im done at future tech making 6000 gold(my last one was 10,000 gold and i earned 1mllion gold but i get bored with it being easy and i dont play it often, one game i played against this civ and destroyed them handedly.
