We have been assured that Trump does not have the power to start a nuclear war on his own.

CNN had a military expert explain how the "red button" works.

First, the president gets advice from his military advisers on what action he could take, they give him the options, and he picks one of those options.

If the military advisers give him the option to nuke North Korea, then it's up to the president to press the red button or not, to nuke um.

If the military advisers do not give him the option to nuke North Korea, then if the President tries to press the red button they just laugh at him, and arrest the President for the "illegal action" of irresponsible nuking.

The President can only act on the advice he gets, he cannot unilaterally do things on his own.

He's the "button pusher", what George Bush liked to call "the decider", but every decision made must start with the advisers recommendations.

Oh and people ?

The nuclear football isn't actually a button.

The only thing I compared was the reality that wars today can always potentially start a nuclear confrontation, particularly when we know someone already dropped a bomb.
