Russian government sources confirmed that militants attacked the Khmeimim air base in Syria using mortars. According to government sources, 2 servicemen were injured. Other sources say seven aircraft (4 Su-24s, 2 Su-35S, 1 An-72) were destroyed. Pictures from the base show significant damage to at least one Su-24.

Aircraft at the base have been shown parked very close together on the parking ramp, so it is easy to see how one mortar round could destroy or damage multiple aircraft.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has acknowledged an attack on its Khmeimim air base in Syria, but has disputed key details from an initial report, denying that seven aircraft had been destroyed in the incident. At the same time, unconfirmed pictures have begun emerging on social media showing significant damage to at least one Su-24 Fencer attack plane.

Who are the attackers would be my first question, but a more important second question would be who funded them?

What kind of weapon was used would be helpful to see if gun running would be involved and a very good indication as to what administration could be held responsible.

All sources are saying mortar for the weapon type. As for who, all anyone is saying is "radical Islamists".

Who is saying radical Islamists? Isis? They have not been completely stomped out so it would not be surprising for them to attack, but this could also be the work of a band of mercs. We need more intel.

The media seems to be reporting it using Russian media outlets. It seems the Russian government is the one that said it first and it's been reported in all the stories I've found about it.

Why do militant groups' (ie, ISIS, ISIL, al-CIAda, etc) vehicles and weapons often trace back to US?!

Because the government supplied them. Benghazi comes to mind. Even fast and furious, yep gunrunning.

Why is it that no one ever comments on the Russian equipment the same groups use?

Well that certainly narrows it down doesn't it?

Airfields in the desert- my uncle was blowing them up in 1941,as a legitimate war target I dont know why this hasn't happened more often as well as fuel and ammo dumps- too busy cruxifying and beheading people I suppose, now a moderate rebel is one that eats your liver with a knife and fork, they've even had cannibalism in that warzone

I think they didn't do it before because it is essentially committing suicide.

Which I'm sure these terrorists will learn soon enough...

Wasn't it just last week that Putin declared victory in Syria?

Exactly , our former president ordered the military out of Iraq and no time to destroy or move the equipment. In fact , the military had to use civilian aircraft. Just left everything setting where it was for the bad guys to pick up....
Trucks , tanks , APCs , all kind of weaponry . Just out in the open with no guards.

What a luck that it isn´t the fault of the "U"S president and the government that lied to start a war in Iraq. Because, it can´t be his fault that the weapons and the military were in iraq, no way! But you can turn it like you want, at the end it is the fault of the "U"SA, the home of these presidents!

And i remember very well that it was just cheaper to leave that stuff there, the stuff that the "U"SA didn´t need anymore. Again, it was all about money and not about not enough time to destroy or move the equipment. If there is a dollar to make, the "U"SA says:

"After me, the deluge!"

Same as it ever was, under every president/puppet of the real rulers(Oligarchs and Generals)!

Per the article, the SU-24's are parked close to one another without barriers.

That's.........weird.

Thanks for this BTW. Interesting.

You’re a smart guy, I’ve seen your posts. You can find the most obscure information. If you cared to look you would find articles tracing Russian weapons being purchased from former WARSAPACT countries and being shipped to Syria via Turkish ports. It’s no secret the funds for these weapons were supplied by the USA and ME Monarchies.

The most interesting aspect to me is Israeli weapons in the hands of ISIS and other terrorists in Syria. It’s plain to see the attempted regime change in Syria by the West and it allies. Iran is the next target.

Sure I could. The point though is that everyone is so quick to point out US weapons, and ignore any possibility beyond "the US obviously is supplying ISIS", while completely ignoring all the Russian and other countries weapons that the same people are using.

Syria is claiming to have downed two diesel powered drones belonging to an Al Qaeda based group that were on the way to attack the base last week. The drones were armed with mortar shells.

Militants are claiming to have destroyed an S400 missile battery using drones.

Looking for better sources on both claims.

Guess I have never heard of a mortar being attached to a drone.
