Strong AI isn't here....yet. YOu are right.

I see no reason to contribute to behavioral analysis to help it arrive, though.

But seriously, im not worried about it. I come up with worst case scenarios in my head constantly. Im a risk averse person by nature, and calculate risk nearly constantly. Its how my brain has wired itself.

I agree with the data thing...i don't think the data I provide is of any real value. Beyond the meta, anyway.

Adverts regularly pop up on eBay for things I believe I have only talked about.

Its a good read about how Google extracts and merges data from aerial and street view photos and then uses the result to extract more data. The concerns come from having the data available for bad actors with killer robot dogs and the end of privacy that will destroy well being. But more to the point it demonstrates they use big data collection to feed AI. The idea that your phones mic is contributing to their big data shouldn't be dismissed so easily. They don't build physical on/off switches for a reason.

Running Samsung Galaxy S4 with android 4.4.2.
5 year old HP computer using Windows 7.

Computer and phone not linked at all. Bluetooth always turned off no shared internet between the two.

Did a search on my phone for a certain items in a local store.

Got home that night using computer and ads popping up on home computer for what I searched on my phone and I don't use the google voice activated. I use typing.

Data mining bastards.

My location is permanently disabled. The app indicating it anyway.

I sign into Google Chrome on both machines (phone and computer), so all my info from one sync's to the other.

I use the Google Wallet to store my CC info for online transactions, and have a gob of passwords saved for non-financial sites that I visit (like Vape Wild, where i order vape supplies from).

I regularly see stuff from one show up on the other.

That gave me a laugh. No the kindle didn't laugh too but sometimes it does that quick flash thing and I'm like did it just try to turn itself on? Anyway I put black nail polish over the camera port on the front just in case. And I don't change my clothes in front of it . Lol.

Me too. It's on my computer and on both tablets I keep. I guess it shows up on hubbys tablet too.
I do like it when I'm watching Netflix on one device I can switch to another and it picks up right where I left off. I bring it to the kitchen and play movies on it while I'm cooking.

My main stop in Buda is Cabelas. They have this section full of cases with the sexiest guns you'll ever see. Collector models. 2 hours of "ooh's" and "aah's", easy.

I don't know if cabela's has it in their case, but check out the Airforce Texan SS.
It's a .457 air rifle that's suppressed.
It's friggin amazing, and my next rifle. Can't wait!

BFFT,
Last year I was having a brew at the pub when an aquantaince, who is a professor at the local college, sat next to me and we started chatting.
I noticed he had a really spiffy hand made leather brief case and I asked him about it. he said he had just bought it from a small shop( he mentioned the name in passing) in San Francisco where they are made. We went on to discuss a variety of subjects and the went on our way. The entire time my phone was in my pocket.
The next day at work, when I fire up my work station and check my email, there is a google ad for this same small company that makes leather bags????

I have a google pixel and get anti trump pop ups from time to time. I got it last January and was getting anti trump stuff regularly that was coming from msm outlets. You have to go to the news sections and select "not interested in story's from cnn, politico, or whatever." But the news is useful sometimes because it will show you non political stuff that you have searched. It has showed me random stuff that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. But it's still not that great at guessing exactly what you are interested in like it kept showing me stories on the Boston Celtics and I'm not a Celitics fan. I follow the NBA but not that closely. I just keep up with the big stories and I guess since the Kyrie Irvin trade was big in the off season, I read a number of articles on that so I guess it thought I was a Celtics fan.

About 2 weeks ago I was driving along on Toll Road 130 near Austin with my son. We were returning from a trip to see a friend in New Braunfels, and were chatting about general random stuff. The drive on 130 is pretty desolate, and lasts about an hour from Buda to Georgetown (where you exit/merge with I-35).

I was using my Garmin, with my phone stowed under the dash (there is a spot for stuff to be laid under the dash of my Ford Pickup). As my son and I were talking, my phone (an LG running the latest version of Android) offered search results (out of nowhere) for something not really related to the topic of the conversation. I think we were talking about something related to the Trump tax plan, and the search offering was for tax consultants. Something along those lines, anyway.

Have any of you ever had your phone do something like this? Eavesdrop, then try to participate in the conversation?

I don't use any of the voice activated features on my phone (never set them up).

Did you or your son happen to say something like "Ok. Google tax plan when we get home"?

I can't tell you how many times I have been remote, doing the "time off thing", and my phone has saved my ass. I can go into our HRIS system from it, pull docs from our shared cloud storage, sent emails to clients/vendors needing a quick turnaround, or had a hot spot for my laptop to connect to miles from the nearest wifi.

Sometimes Pandora opens up and starts playing even though I don't even have a shortcut on any screen and I'm not even touching the phone.

It's done it numerous times.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I have become little more than a generator of data for a vast number of automated information and marketing systems designed to sell me (and others like me) a ton of crap.
