There's a saying I've heard about some people being born 'two under par.' It means they only feel like everyone else does after a couple of drinks. Maybe it's you?

Speaking from personal experience and seeing it happen with others, booze is a dead end. Diminishing returns. Depletes the brain's capacity to feel happiness and dulls the senses. Short termism is a real thing so it is what it is.

Long term its better to get the booze monkey off your back and stop living vicariously through box sets! Go steal a car or punch an asshole in the face. Run round the block. I wish I had an answer, but I frequently feel the same way.

Well yeah, he did say that. He also says he now requires alcohol, class As (plural) and a ahem 'bossy' hooker to rise to certain occasions.

I'm a fan of Doug and got all his CDs.

I've never been bored while alone in my life.

Get your mind off of yourself and do some volunteer work. Think of someone else for a change. Be a Big Brother to a kid who has no father, or go on an animal rescue mission with the humane society, or work in a soup kitchen and get to know the homeless in your community. That'll do wonders for your boredom.

A lot of good responses, thanks everyone.

I see a few have summed up similar feelings. On thing that doesn't help me is the weather. 20 into 30 below wind chills pretty much lock you inside.

I'm moving back to Florida-in Georgia now but spent 20 years in that frozen hell of Minnesota. 25 days to heaven-I'd be in the Florida Keys if I could afford it. I need sunshine-maybe you do too. Go for it.

Boredom.

Perpetual endless boredom.

It's saturating me, every moment of the day. In my youth I could shrug it off and divert my attention to other interests and hobbies.

Now, it seems like it had always been there, waiting and slowing chewing away waiting for it's moment to strike.

Strike it has, it's a surreal feeling. It, and it's accomplice "time", is a mighty foe that seems to be winning out over what should have been a beautiful mind.

Thank God for booze.

Ummm...and here I thought you were going to say...and we've been married for 42 years...

So what are the reasons behind boredom?

I am just making this up as i write but:

1) Suppressed ambitions to create something but can't/wont do it

2) Futile sense of self due to not have a partner to share life with

3) Over the top expectations about life

Any thoughts
