Well, I'm sure that Trump supporters thought their money was to pay for Trumps campaign straight out, yet $8.2million out of $119million went to Trump business..pocket padding, that's not even to mention that Republican supporters money went out to the candidate least favoured right up to Trump being nominated.

Not at all, your being weird, the Trump supporters were diddled as well...as I explained.
Besides, Trump and Hillary were both bottom of the preferences before selection, and I would say that most of the voters for both parties didn't get what they would have wanted...that's obvious, and I would think that the parties' feedbacks will contain plenty of material to chew on, no more circuses.
That's nothing to do with me being an outside observer, and not an American voter, who were left with the bottom of the barrel.
The result was the US got Trump, and that is a disaster..and there's no sure whatever's about that either.

All this distraction by trying to compare Russian autocracy with he US is just that. While the US democracy may have issues, it does not compare one dot with the Russian "democracy". I think people who think it does should get off their arses and travel.

On the Democracy Index produced by the Economist, Russia is well down the list. To even hold elections in Russia is becoming a joke. EIU Democracy Unit, or via Wiki.

To the OP. This silencing of the opposition by the Russian authorities ensures an uncontested win for the corrupt elite already in power. The suppression of coherent voices to challenge Putin et al is unreported by the cowed and repressed Russian media.

And BTW, I guess someone who did jail time can be a president of USA? No! Same goes for Russia.

Clearly the Russian authorities think he's a threat. His actual level of support is difficult to gauge as the media is controlled by the government. His message is anti-corruption and human rights, so that will show up the competition. The competition is Putin, the person who controls the media and the message.

If I were a betting man, my money would be on Putin.

Hell, we proclaimed a reset with Russia a year after Putin's Handpicked lackey took over the Presidency only because he couldn't run again till he changed the laws.

He's arrested, exiled or killed any threats to his rule in a very predictive fashion.
