I don't understand this issue at all. Who gives a flying flip where some country decides their capital is? Would there be this much controversy if Italy moved their capital to Naples?

Seems to me that UN called Trumps bluff.
But this will be spun as a victory for Trump by the usual suspects on ATS.

Really? You think a non-binding finger wagging is calling his bluff?

That's comical.

Well as far as I know, the US or our state department has not rescinded any of their plans. We will see who's bluff is called when US money disappears from their annual budgets. Watch them be required to stir up trouble in their own countries to somehow make up for the deficit.

As Naples is in Italy No but Jerusalem is supposed to be shared between Israel and the Palestinians , the US recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is basically a green light for Israel to claim Jerusalem and so end the peace process , something they never wanted anyway.
edit on 21-12-2017 by gortex because: (no reason given)

If that is the case then why has the US made this move?

They will be the only country to have an embassy there. The rest are in Tel Aviv, through consensus. The controversy is part of the Palestine/Israel problem and Trump is stoking the fire.

the UN has declared his declaration on Jerusalem "null and void"

That is not actually what has happened. The UN cannot declare US actions "null and void". The vote by the General Assembly is just them waffling off, but they are citing previous UN Resolutions that reference Jerusalem, which have been previously supported by the US. The vote at the General Assembly followed a vote at the Security Council where a resolution was not adopted.

Due to a veto cast by the United States today, the Security Council failed to adopt a draft resolution that would have called upon all States to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in Jerusalem.

The motion is null and void, because they have no authority to make that declaration, and also (more to the point) because theyhave no power to enforce it.

On Wednesday, Mr Trump warned he might cut financial aid to states who voted in favour of the resolution.

Uh, democracy at it's finest! But... but... but... $hillary!

From the same brilliant organization that put Saudi Arabia as the head of the Human Rights Council. The UN is literally just a waste of money and power. They cover up UN peacekeeper pedophilia and sex trafficking. Disband them.

Can we in return reject the location of the United Nations headquarters in New York City?

Evict them?

It cost $65,000,000 in 1965 to build, it's worth a hundred times more, even more than that.

What your Congress decided 20 years ago had no affect on the real world ,what Trump stated a few weeks ago does.

If Clinton, Bush and Obama didn't not follow Congress' directive, as per the Consitution, doesn't mean the current President has to ignore them as well.
