A child so young, and I have a bad feeling about this one. What a nightmare for the family, and likely the child as well. Praying she's found, safe, but not sure that's going to happen.

We need to be very careful about assigning blame. No data yet, and it isn't fair to assume someone is guilty with no facts. Imagine it's your child missing.

One of Onslow County’s top law enforcement officials has been appointed to a seat on the state Domestic Violence Commission.

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller fills the unexpired term of Charles Campbell. Miller was nominated by N.C. Rep. George Cleveland who represents House District 14 which includes portions of Onslow County.

Cleveland nominated Miller based on his “background in fighting internet crimes against children and child pornography, I thought he was the ideal candidate for the position. And he was interested in serving,” Cleveland said Tuesday afternoon in a telephone interview.

Heads up, that's all I'm saying.

So this wonky dude has specialized investigating domestic violence and child porn?

Better look into the domestic violence at that house, and who came to the rescue?

I have to admit, I cringed when I read that the biological father found the mother's story suspicious and she has a live-in boyfriend. The little girl was handicapped and there were three other people in the house at the time she disappeared. It certainly doesn't sound good.

Link? I haven't seen anything on him save the statement that the child wasn't with him.

Edit to add - Never mind; I see the link posed further down. Now, this isn't good. Her mother speaks of her in the present tense, but he uses past tense? What does he know that the mother doesn't? Suspicious. The video won't play, so can anyone confirm that's how he spoke?

WITN reports that Thomas has worked for the Onslow County Sheriff's Office since February of 2008. He resigned after his arrest.

Who did he work with? (Hans Miller?)?

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller says Thomas was an Onslow County Sheriff's deputy but resigned Wednesday, the day before his arrest. Miller said Thomas had a good reputation at the Sheriff's Office. He said he worked there for about seven years. Miller said he was shocked and disappointed by Thomas' arrest.

I'd guess that his experience with child pornography, and no doubt other associated crimes, would be the relevance here, if any. Just because he has that experience, that doesn't mean every case in his area will be related. A child abducted isn't typically for some non-harmful purpose, however, so a predator is possible.

If the children were abused, it seems unlikely they'd be there, and not with the father. Custody cases, too, can get ugly, and lies can be told. I won't jump to conclusions.

I will say this - a sleeping child can be moved, depending on the child, with little to no noise. Sure, there is a possibility of foul play by someone in the home, and I am certain they are looking into that angle, but e can't assume. What would be the motive? Even the bio dad states the child was happy when he saw her. The mother seems sincere, speaking in the present tense, and i see no reason as of yet to suspect her. Others in the home, who knows? Would have to see them to form an opinion.

Cases like his can be difficult. I know in the JonBenet Ramsey case, it wasn't either parent I'd be questioning, considering all I have learned about that case. For the Casey Anthony one, I suspect her parents more than her. Not a good outcome for the children in either case, though, and I hope and pray that's not what we see here! Days, though, and no word, isn't a good sign.

I'd like to know if they habitually leave a door unlocked (some in smaller towns do), and if so, who knew about it.

Are there online records of domestic abuse calls?

The first video on the link didn't play, but the second finally did. Iffy on that one, on what the dad said, since he was speaking, I think, of when he'd last seen her. If there was more in the other, it never loaded for me.

At this stage, honestly, both parents seem sincerely worried.

Any video of the boyfriend, or anyone other than the mother, in that home?

Read back. 2 years ago a deputy who worked with/for Hans Miller was arrested on child porn charges - all girls under 12.

Still looking into arrest or not records of Alex, Kristy or the BF.

Right now I'm working records of domestic violence concerning the parties involved.

Oh, wow....now that opens up some seriously creepy possibilities!! While I won't criticize Miller for poor verbiage, his attitude in the video you posted on page 1 was, well, weird. He said all of the right things, but he didn't really seem concerned. He could have been discussing a community picnic, for all of the emotion in his face and voice. Added to the above....that's almost making me sick. Working with a guy doesn't make one guilty, but knowing that, and seeing his casual attitude...I wonder if the FBI knows all of this?

Odd, indeed. He's clearly not eloquent, but even so, that's downright weird. Is it just me, or does it seem like he knows a LOT more than he is saying? And, no, I don't mean just keeping details quiet to preserve a case, which is normal. It's like he's got all of the answers already, and is going through the motions. Not a care in the world, from that one video.

Maybe I am reading too much into it, and being unfair, but I was wondering about his attitude before reading all of this. Wondering a lot more now!!

Yes.

And I'm sorry. Without extensive supervision, counseling, checks and balances, a man who researches child pornography on a daily basis as his job, in my opinion is very susceptible for 'acting out' what he sees in his research on a daily basis. It's an evil that grabs you in and...then... We've all heard it too many times.

Then - the officer he worked with getting arrested 2 years ago for child pornography? Han's was 'very disappointed' when this co-officer was arrested'?

Anyway, all I'm saying is all the above, and...

Where Hans works/lives and where Mariah went missing? 7-10 minutes apart.

Or Heleigh Cummings who was all over the news because she disappeared the same day of Caylee Anthony's memorial service. That was in 2009 I guess. Caylee died in Aug of 2008 but wasn't found until December. I think her memorial wasn't until January .

Missing N.C. toddler may have been seen at Walmart

The search for a missing North Carolina 3-year-old intensified Wednesday with authorities trying to determine if Mariah Woods is the toddler in photos taken by a Walmart security camera in Morehead City. Morehead City is about 40 miles east of Mariah's home in Jacksonville. Mariah was last seen by her mother's boyfriend late Sunday night and was reported missing Monday morning.

Will keep updates and 'other' info coming.

I so hope and pray Mariah is ok.
