Iran is sailing a flotilla of vessels through the Gulf Of Mexico part of a tour of South America. It will be interesting to see how well this goes. That's Blue water navy territory and UNREPS are really only practiced by a few navies. There are only 5-6 true blue water navies in the world and it can get lonely out there is things go wrong.

That being said they will no doubt have some quiet undersea escorts courtesy of the USN along with the usual suspects on the surface and air.

"The enemy is encroaching in our territory sir."

Oh wait doesn't US do the same near Iran?

I bet Iran’s navy of “warships” consisted of 3 speed boats and a yacht. lol

One of the most blantant cases of propaganda I have ever seen was a few years back. The headline said something like,

“Iranian warship harrasses US destroyer..”

Then they show the video/picture and the Iranian “warship “ is literally a speed boat, lmao..

When they show it speed by the destroyer is was literally comical, because the Iranian vessel didn’t even remotely stand as y’all as the anchor port hole..

You are close. Most all Iranians ships are less than 100 tons displacement with a couple closing in above 1,000. Most all of them are not suited to cross an ocean. A typical US destroyer, of which we have 66, weighs in at about 9,000 tons and a CVN is pushing 100,000.

This sounds more like propaganda for internal consumption to me. Considering it's an ant vs and elephants foot scenario, it's not likely they think it will be perceived as a threat to the Western World.

its newly appointed navy commander, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, held his first press conference Wednesday,

Yeah, he's a badass.

Iran will demonstrate their versions of the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.

Ill be interested to see if they can get there and back without needing outside assistance, it would be highly amusing to me if they got close to the US and one of their ships started having serious problems and the Coast guard had to come assist.

Peeps in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

How many crashes have there been recently involving the US Navy. Running into container ships ... because ... crew failures.

And yet ... you want to demean Iran's Navy ... such as it is.

LOL

Fully loaded with autonomous mini killer drones with the Bush family photos in their memory .

Just thinking, is that both Iran's navy's, IRIN IRGCN involved?
The other thing is they must be pretty well trained in their subs as they patrol the Strait of Hormuz, and that's a busy place, though they do only have a few oldish Russian De/E subs and a plethara of midgets, though it does say in the link that new subs are in the offing, it doesn't say what however.
I have to say though, this is Trump forcing the issue instead of just being observant and generally being a dick. I'm pretty sure most US navy, (at the least) commanders are not best pleased....never mind the cost that will now have to be incurred with more US fleets needing to be deployed.
I'm not even sure of the infrastructure being that good when you hear of an oldish aircraft going down today elsewhere, however that's the way it was reported.

They can refuel at a Gulf Coast station.

Did you see that story a few years ago where the media said,

“Iranian warship harrasses destroyer “ then it turned out to be a speed boat??

So on paper I doubt the old Kilo class subs they have will make it out of port to be honest and there is talk of locally produced designs but none have materialized. But..... The Iranians have showns themselves to be quite adept at making tweeks here and there so you never know. But they are not sending subs.

This is also not about any meaningful power projection but rather a pure propaganda play and our president with his complete inability to constrain himself will twitter his way into THEIR propaganda victory.

A P-8 heck a P-3 with a few harpoons will take care do this taskforce if they get frisky.

Apparently they had enough left over after their party, supporting terror groups in the Middle East, exerting control over Iraq, supplying a war in Yemen to take their tincan navy for a cruise around the world.

They couldn't dream of doing all of that before Obama lifted sanctions and gave them all that money.

That's the one kind of problem where throwing money at it doesn't fix it
