Charles Manson, the wild-eyed 1960s cult leader whose followers committed heinous murders that terrorized Los Angeles and shocked the nation, died Sunday of natural causes, according to the California Department of Corrections. He was 83.
The diminutive and charismatic Manson orchestrated a wave of violence in August 1969 that took the lives of seven people, spawned headlines worldwide and landed him and his "Manson Family" of followers in prison for most of the remainder of their lives.

Breaking: Charles Manson Dead at 83

as a California taxpayer I am relieved that we do not have to pay for this psycho anymore. He should have been executed decades ago for his crimes. You have to wonder if Manson was part of the MKULTA experiments and the killings he orchestrated were part of the program. Or was he really just a sick puppy (or both)

I don't think many people under age 50 know what he did. They just know the name.

Maybe but he has been part of pop culture for some time so even my 15 year old was cognizant of who he was when we caught the breaking news banner

That's $50,000 less annual the Prison Industrial Complex gets to profit per year.

I'm in my 20's and know what he did, I wanted to find out where the words helter-skelter came from.

The man was a sick sick human being, I've always been fascinated by cults and his cult following is quite famous. Up there with the moonies.

Why wasn't he executed? No death penalty in California?

Totally I live in the Shadow of Stanford University AND SRI International. However, that was federal dollars and not State. Ill bet the cost of manson healthcare, legal stuff, and incarceration as into the millions.

that was money that would have been better spent elsewhere. Say he cost ten million over his lifespan to the CA taxpayer. How many inner city kids could we have sent to collage with that 500?

I'm an atheist so I'm going with worm food.

But perhaps those more religious could speak to it: Even if say he confessed his sins, would it be enough? Thats assuming he is a christian

He finally died, you say?

That's 48 years too late. Better late than never, I suppose, but he should have been executed decades ago for that barbarity.

Congratulations for being an INFORMED middle-age American. I bet you can point out at least 40 states on the U.S. map too, can't you?

Charles Manson was part of God's plan for mankind. He fulfilled his mission..and is now preparing for the next one.
