The soldier crossed to the South Korean side of the Joint Security Area (JSA) in the village of Panmunjom on Monday. He had driven near the JSA, but had to finish his journey by foot when a wheel came loose, the South said. North Korean troops shot at him 40 times - but he made it across and was found under a pile of leaves, it added. About 1,000 people from the North flee to the South each year - but very few defect via the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ), which is one of the world's most heavily guarded strips of land. It is even more unusual for North Koreans to cross at the JSA, which is a tourist attraction, and the only portion of the DMZ where both forces stand face-to-face. North and South Korea are technically still at war, since the conflict between them ended in 1953 with a truce and not a formal peace treaty.

Seeing as how this guy is a real, actual refugee from tyranny trying to escape at a n accepted risk to life, lets hear him out.

They have the video of the incident. They are debating how much to release. SK officials said it looked like an action movie.

He was shot 5 times while running across the border. He is in an induced coma and life support. The reports I've seen say he had the worst case of intestinal parasites they've ever seen.
Surgeons also found a never before seen parasite in his body, along with an 8 inch roundworm that was removed from him. He was very brave to make his escape. I hope he survives. He can be a useful intelligence source.
The NK people must be suffering so much. Parasites..ugh

I dont think 11 inch parasitic worms and 5 gun shot wounds is just "part of the show". He gambled with what was left of his life to run for it, do or die at that moment, he won, and i hope he lives to tell his tale to us all.
