Great nations come and go through out human history. For a young nation such as the US to have risen to such a level of power is not unheard of in the history of the world. What is unheard of is its new form of governing. It is untested by time with unpredictable result. I've heard alot of people talking about how the fall of US will take the entire world with it in misery. I know that the world economy is linked in someway that a ripple in one countries' market may cause a shock in another. But, That does not mean the crush of US brings the end of the world. Yes, there would be an initial turmoil but people find a way to survive and a lot of countries are gearing toward that end hoping that one day they'll rise to take over the US after its doom. I am also wondering, what makes people think that the US has something that other countries dont that when it crumbles the rest of the world is helplessly unable to provide itself?

Please give you opinions, educated predictions or imaginations of the world after US. What wars will be fought. Who will be fighting and who will finaly emerges as the next super power. I am just curious to know.

I figure over 99 percent of the current world's population will be destroyed but I guess the remaining survivors could form new nations from the remnants of what's left after Armageddon. I guess the people looking forward to the end of the US will happily cheer the end of all as we know it. It is foolish to think countries with thousands of nuclear warheads will go down without a fight to the death. I think it's been called Mutually Assured Destruction or MAD. It's sad that some people can't seem to wait for the day to occur.

The North American continent will be returned to the nations which held it prior to the European Invasion. Most of the people will return to Europe and the rest will be taken into the NA nations which still exist today. Far from being the subservient and weak people as they are tagged as being today...the eventual gutting of western economies will bring them back to power, strengthened by all those who are willing to accept their ways.

Wars will be fought in those countries thought of as the places where western civilization was born...from ancient lands now known as France, Britain, Norway, Finland, Greece, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. They will fight the Far East ...the Chinese, Russians, Indonesians and India (among many others). This will drain the power of America and cause it's economic collapse.

The next superpower will be the East...because the greatest war ever fought on earth will be fought by the footsoldier armed with a gun. All the fighting machines and bombs are useless against that soldier (as was seen in Viet Nam). It always boils down to a 'ground war', in the end. The sheer numbers China alone can march to European battlefields will be overwhelming...an unstoppable tide spread over a continent...nukes will only have minimal effects on their attacks.

Well...Red Hare...those are my predictions.
After it's all over, I agree with Vitchilo and they see ALL...definitely a better world

The U.S will not fall it will only be annexiated into a much larger nation and then that will be the end of it.

Yeah it will be a better world when the US falls. Oh wait, Modern day people have no idea what it is like to oppressed by a Super Power, your idea of oppression is McDonalds being brought to your country. But lets get back to the response, what a glorious day it will be when the U.S. falls and Communist/Red China becomes the Super Power! I am sure nobody will be oppressed then. Please all i ask is just think about what you are wishing for, even if it doesn't involve Nukes going off!

The Cobalt bomb. A rumoured device that is allegedly buried somewhere in the US midwest. It is a nuclear device that would blow a hole in the atmosphere, in theory, thus symbolically tipping over the chess board rather than facing checkmate. I doubt anyone would condone such lunacy.

Remember June 4th.........Tianamen Square. Just a memo.
The US has many faults, and many past misdeeds. As do all nations. I cannot pick any nation that I would prefer to be the worlds leading military force. Who would you pick?
I can see the US becoming a nation that is no longer out front, but one that is in the lead pack, alongside the new powers. China and India are two possibilities to be there.
The US government acts badly sometimes, but often this is done secretly, and the average citizen learns of it only later. So, for all the hospitality shown me every single time I visited your glorious melting pot of a democracy, I thank you.

Well the US isn't just going to fall. If it would fall, it would take a pretty big war over a long period of time to cause that.
Any war that big and that long will affect every corner of the world, so no the world would not be in a better shape.
Plus the US provided billions of dollars in food and aid to poor countries every year. Should the US fall, other countries would have to pick up the slack causing more strain on their economy and resources. Plus the US is a HUGE importer. If some countries don't have the US to trade with anymore it will completely crush their economy.
Oh and good luck with Russia or China being the world's police now. If you thought the U.S. was bad....well....you haven't seen anything yet.

The U.S will not fall it will only be annexiated into a much larger nation and then that will be the end of it.

Sounds about right....

The US will fall, every superpower falls at some point. I dont think the US will fall as in a war, but more like replaced by China.

What happens in a post-US world really depends on the way the US disappears.

Were the US to be taken out in a global-scale war (really, currently, the only way to violently remove us) it would have lasting, physical, consequences the world over: The US is willing to use nuclear weapons in its own defense, and, should it appear necessary, would probably resort to any biological and chemical agents that "we absolutely do not have...wink wink." Really, though, that's pretty far-fetched right now. The US has done a remarkable job of generating ill-will in the last decade, whether it's the current administrations Dukes-Of-Hazard approach to international diplomacy ("Shout 'YeeHaw!' and floor it), or the previous admin's rather careless intelligence when bombing the aspirin factory[1] and the Chinese embassy, but I don't think we're at a point yet where the rest of the world feels it necessary to confront us with force.

A more likely "fall," though less exciting, is a slow decline. With the state of the world currently, it's unlikely that this would lead to any great catastrophy. Economic markets will be dragged down by the US economy in such a scenario, but would eventually recover. What happens here, in North America, will be more interesting, but I doubt it would really lead to any mass-exodus of white people back to Europe. What may happen, if it comes to pass this way, is that after decades of a weakening federal government, the US either merges with a neighbor, breaks up into smaller federations, or simply has the current federal government replaced by a different system.

[1]Whether it was a medicine or chemical-weapons factory is really, at this point, immaterial. Regardless of its veracity, the "you bombed an aspirin factory" story has spread too far and wide to squash it now.

minimal effects LOL

Sheer numbers stop meaning anything with the invention of the Nuclear weapon. They can turn a 200 million person army into dust with the quickness. Nobody has been able to see what they can do in warfare for quite awhile. Nobody has been pushed to use them in recent warfare but you can bet some massive Chinese army trying to take over the world would see them.

You think. Why don't you try and take us down. You will find it hard to take on a country who's population is made up of people that were bullied. Maybe we should pull our troops home, close our boarders, cut off cut all ties to the outside world for 10 years then just reclaim the free space you leave us after WWIII

I'm still waiting for others, besides Whiskey Jack, to answer the question Red Hare has asked in his original thread..."what are your predictions?"

While not wishing to hijack this thread with a segway into nuclear warfare and its' effectiveness on 200 million strong armies on a battlefield, I feel compelled to answer ShadowX1X and the statement about nuclear capability;

In my prophecy, I see an Asia moving westwards toward Europe...army columns moving freely over the open steppes much like Ghengis Khan did 800 years ago, but this time with a horde augmented by many other countries from the Far East. These armies would have the ability to spread over a wide area, moving freely with the blessing of a friendly Russia until they reach Eastern Europe, where they would meet their first resistance.

Only then would the west will have the unpleasant choice of a nuclear attack on friendly nations in order to stop that spread...not a happy plan.

The only way to fight will be 'man to man' on the ground...a war of attrition in which numbers would have the upper hand.

Playing devils advocate...I suggest nuclear bombs are for taking out infrastructure...like factories and cities, and only artilliery equipped with tactical nuclear shells would have any effect on the widespread mobile enemy, who would never mass in one place long enough to target. Even a massive bombimg campaign on the supply lines would be ineffectual if those supply lines were able to change location.

Also...do you really not see Russia retaliating to any nuclear attacks on their soil? By the time we realize that the 200 million strong force is on the move, it'll be too late to stop them until they're over the Urals.

Just for clarity...this is a prophecy, not a desire...I sincerely hope it will never come to this, but I wonder if it is an inevitability.

You must have missed Russia's former fall from Superpowerdom....

Still, I think it's a bit premature to forecast the downfall of the US. Sure, we're now a dictatorship vs. a democracy, and we're war-mongering like nobody's business, but who knows?

I think you're accurate on your predictions masqua, except that nukes are the ULTIMATE anti-personnel weapons...and would wipe out mass troop deployments. Nukes are a means of mass destruction of facilities and equipment as well as bio warfare all rolled into one.

This 200million army could be kill with nuks without killing manny in the country they are invading and with out causing destrouction of buildings there simply by using the nutron bomb .
ten bombs detanted 20 miles up could kill anone withing 500 square miles of more if nessery.
so having a billion solders doesent mean much . But lest we forget china has these wepons as well .In the end it would truly be the end of our so called civolisation . Fuuny we call our selfs civolised and have a thousand ways to bring Death and destrouction.

Many people believe that in order for the US to fall there has to be a persistant war that affects the entire world. Well... It is often the internal curruption that brings down a great nation. Just like any rotten trees fall in due time, the bigger the tree the faster it comes down, it is inevitable. For example, a civil war, it happened before in the US and it certainly could happen again. Lets make up a wild scenerio for the next US civil war.... Instead the south vs the north, how about God-believers vs Truth-seekers?
Lets say one day in a not too distant future aliens make their appearence in the white house and the government finally confirms the exisitance of E.T. It'll defininetly send a shock wave through christian communities. Many will start to wonder if the bible were true or if there is really a God? If there is God, aren't we his favorite creation? But, why is there a life form that is superior then us? Do those aliens know the truth about God? These issue will manifest themselves in all major and minor elections, becoming the center of all debates. Politicians will be forced to choose sides and tension will grow in every corner of the societies and the people become polarized. Lets leave it here. You all know what would happen next if a country with its people growing apart. There might not be a war from all of this but it'll definetly weaken the country to let other elements to seep in. There are other scenerios where US may come to doom on its own, so keep your mind open and tell us what you think the world would be like without the catastrophic nuclear breakout theme after the fall of the US.

You could argue, though, that both losses by Germany were deserved ones.

Prior to the first World War, Bismark had artfully arranged the treaties in Europe so that if any one country made an aggressive move, everyone would attack France.[1] Not wanting to be left out of the fun, when Wilhelm II became Kaiser, he dabbled in treaty-writing a bit and artfully arranged things so that if any aggressive move was made Europe would now fall on Germany. The Great War was a tragedy in any sense of the word, but a lot of the responsibility for Germany being at the bottom of the dogpile does fall on its leaders at the time.

In WWII, Germany played the part of the aggressor. I know that there are a lot of reasons for this: from a crushing economic debt due to the Treaty of Versailles, to subdued anger and shame at being defeated in 1918, but in the end the people of Germany supported a leader who was willing to forcably invade sovereign nations, and one who was willing to place the blame for Germany's, indeed the world's, problems on a minority population and to have that population persecuted and killed. So...yeah, that group of leaders had to go.

And before the inevitable connections between certain current leaders, and certain previous leaders are drawn, there are similarities. There are also, currently, some significant differences, so let's keep this a light, friendly thread

[1] Yeah, yeah, very over simplified, but essentially that is what would have happened, due largely to anti-French paranoia following Napoleon's failed bids for European annexation.
