Harvey Weinstein expelled from motion picture academy

Embattled film mogul Harvey Weinstein — a once-dominant force in the Academy Awards who rewrote the rules of Oscar campaigning — has been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in response to mounting allegations of sexual harassment and assault against him.

The film academy’s 54-member board of governors, which includes such industry luminaries as Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Kathleen Kennedy and Whoopi Goldberg, voted in an emergency meeting on Saturday morning to remove Weinstein from the organization’s ranks in an unprecedented public rebuke of a prominent industry figure. The move marked the latest blow in Weinstein’s stunning downfall and, in symbolic terms, amounts to a virtual expulsion from Hollywood itself.

In removing Weinstein from the organization’s ranks, the academy’s board said in a statement, “We do so not simply to separate ourselves from someone who does not merit the respect of his colleagues but also to send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over. What’s at issue here is a deeply troubling problem that has no place in our society. The Board continues to work to establish ethical standards of conduct that all Academy members will be expected to exemplify.”

So is this one and done or the start to something greater?

It's just another show from Hollywood. Something that has no substance, no relevance in our lives, but it looks like Hollywood is "doing something".

Wonder what other secrets are on the verge of popping from Hollywood?

Remember Barbra Walters said Corey Feldman was ruining an entire industry by saying he was molested by the richest "people" in the industry.

That's what I'm wondering. How far will this go?

Meanwhile, this part of the article is interesting:

The academy's move follows the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' decision earlier this week to suspend Weinstein's membership. The Producers Guild of America is set to hold a meeting on Monday morning to decide whether to take similar action.

That's quite an excommunication.

Ugh...I was just sitting here thinking the same thing. I really don't want to give in to cynicism here, but I just can't bring myself to put much stock into their stated reasons for giving him the boot. It seems more likely that they're like rats trying to scurry away from a sinking ship. Horrible that we live in a world where we doubt the sincerity of things like this, but it is what it is. Sucks.

I'm afraid I can not see how this guy could get in such a situation so as to coerce woman into such compromising positions. Money ? He is really unattractive.... so much so, I doubt liquor would help much. But what do I know, it's Hollywood.

If true:

If I understand this correctly, he gets these young women-assaults them but they get work. If they want more work they better keep their traps shut.

So it is a sick symbiotic relationship. But what I do not get is why A listers did not stop this after they got "theirs"?

Some creepy Seagal.
Steven expected an alone actress at his door?
www.avclub.com...

"He looked surprised that she was with me. Then he let us into the foyer of his house which was decorated in an Asian style. The outside was a big Beverly Hills mansion, but when you go inside the house it looked very Asian inspired. He waved me into another room. That room was also Asian. There was a big chair on a platform. Again, it looked like a big Asian throne. He sat on the chair in the silk robe and asked me to perform the scenes I had prepared. I had worked on those scenes for days. I performed them for him while he sat on this throne. It was so strange."~ article

George Clooney harasses an ER actress.

"Vanessa Marquez, 48, who starred as Nurse Wendy Goldman on the long-running hospital drama for the first three seasons, tweeted Tuesday: “B.S. Clooney helped blacklist me when I spoke about harassment on ‘ER.’ ‘Women who don’t play the game lose career.’ I did.”~Vanessa Marquez

Well Ben apologised but he might have been drunk... what ever.

Not Left. Not Right.. it's Hollywood...

It doesn't just happen in Hollywood. The fashion industry is rife with sexual harassment and coercion as well. Ditto the beauty industry. One of the main reasons I got out of that scene myself. They get these victims young, and use money, affluence and the promise of dreams fulfilled, along with the false pretense that they owe something in return for the benevolence bestowed upon them, as a very powerful tool for entrapment. They prey upon a very select type of potential victims, both female and male.

Sexual abuse almost always involves an illusory dynamic of indebtedness, and it is extremely effective. Some people can break through that illusion and escape, but far more cannot. And the further it goes, the harder it is to get out. It's easier if there is a support system, like family, but they get these young people who either have no family or are essentially estranged for various reasons, and that is not accidental.

One of the hallmarks of any abuse situation is that the abuser takes great care to isolate their victims from anyone who may pose a threat to the continuation of the abuse. This is either done by physical means or psychological...or a combination of both.

Being the victim of repeated abuse is about the loneliest existence you can imagine. I mean, who's going to believe someone wouldn't just walk away from a creep like that, right? Just tell him to f*ck off, right?

These people are masters of manipulation. Those women didn't walk away because they believed that they could not. They give them liquor and drugs because if you drink enough or take enough pills, you can pretend it's happening to someone else, anyone else, but you. In a situation like that, sometimes it's your only escape. And no one will ever understand what that feels like unless they've had it happen to them personally. It is a hell that most people cannot even begin to comprehend.

I promise you, this goes way further. This isn't over, not by a long shot. More and more victims will become emboldened to speak up about this, now that people are actually willing to listen. It's not just Hollywood. This is rampant throughout every aspect of the entertainment industries. Someone made a crack about rock stars earlier, but it is a very real possibility that we will see stories emerge about the music industry soon enough as well.

That is a great (and horrific) description. Though I imagine the problem is universal to all business or industries, including the halls of government.

So you think this will go nowhere?

That's a shame, if you are right.

Nailed it on both post.

Edit: for the rest.
Met a movie producer and director about 15 years ago on a set of a horror film. Was there to watch auditions. Nothing bad happend during the auditions.
( BUT what happened next with the Bravado)
Later one evening when the set was shut down and it was directors and needed staff left. And i watched many female actresses leave crying after being told they had the part.... but in fact didn't somehow.

The guy in charge looked at me and said... "I'm the Producer and the Director. I'm going to treat you like "Sh!t". Put you in my movie.... and make a lot of money"

After that... I left
Karma got him early. But the problem is continuous.

That's what I'm waiting to see. I can't tell how much steam it has. As someone already posted, the child sexual abuse issue needs to break too.

Well, I do remember a few years ago, that some Hollywood heavy said that Hollywood was run by Jews and Homosexuals...may have been our Mel. I guess "Weinstein" is from the first group...

I think the solution is obvious......

When Male babies are born, they are immediately Neutered, and their testicles put into special "test"-tubes to be injected with hormones, then placed in cryostasis, to be used in future years by any woman as she sees fit, particularly as women will only want women partners in the future....because they think alike.
Men can then be pacified an can attend to duties like housework, cleaning toilets, factory work, and menial tasks.

As men no longer assume the protector role or dominant role, women who have that predilection, can then inject themselves with extra testosterone, grow facial/body hair and muscles, stop their periods (what a relief), become aggressive, but less moody.....and go bald.

We will then have XX Chromosome humans that are quasi "Men"..................and they get jobs in Hollywood, where they become action heros and heads of studios, and have a penchant for young attractive women.......

And the cycle continues.....

Oh dear......

For all the moral shame bludgeoning that we hear coming from feminists / Hollyweird / etc, about the oppression of women in particular, that's a DAMNING indictment of Hollywood culture.

I loathe hypocrisy as much as deception & willful ignorance, and this stuff just oozes from their whole scene Hollyweird in particular.

i.e. Hollywood / Music Industry elitists telling everyone they need to kill them selves to save the planet while they live in ultrasupermega mansions and fly private jets every week...

So maybe the whole feminist scene really was warranted.... at least in their beloved Tinseltown. At the very least they needed to start there, instead of attacking everything it is to be a male in every instance and setting the way its been shifting.

And now that they're getting it, where it actually was needed, oh boy watch out their sanctimonious holier than thou BS to flow from their little scene is about to hit break neck speed emanating out in all directions to every little niche of society even where not warranted the thought policing is about to unfold.

Er wait, that's already been the case it seems everywhere but there.

Spooky stuff.

It seems October Surprises aren't merely for election years any more...

Watch out guys. I fear as if we already haven't been, we're all going to be eating shia'ite for the actions of the Harvey Weinstein's that their FAKE ass little world has enabled, for a long time to come as if we all had something to do with it when 'half' of us have been critical of their world and the other 'half' have been bootlicking them for their phony lip service...

Poor guy, ostracized by his party.

He should have changed parties and he would have been praised and elected to the presidency.

His mistake was being part of a party that does stand for that kind of deviance.

More like he would have been 'kicked out of' Hollyweird a decade ago merely for voting differently.

That its taking their culture this long to finally upchuck a mere one of these creatures shows a much bigger picture: the hypocrisy of groups. This guy was EVERYTHING that the feminists talk about, and yet Tinseltown wouldnt boot him all these years not even on those grounds never mind the sheer immorality of it all.

Sounds like the eunuchs; the sorts that were tasked with guarding the old palace harems of Asia.

Also sounds like another perfect example of what "social justice" is really all about: Not merely making the world a 'just' place to live, nope, its abut PAYBACK TIME MOTHERF#@*$(RS.

Just so long as the once dominant / majority groups are being ousted, no matter if everyone from the group(s) were innocent or not, the new groups "CANT BE racist / sexist / etc".
