Trump must not be a hot joke source with the juvenile diabetes donor crowd. A donor, Greg Maffei, who donated big bucks was offended by the jokes and George was asked to stop, but he did not.

Comic George Lopez was booed off stage at a gala for juvenile diabetes in Denver last week, over an anti-Donald Trump routine that fell flat with the crowd.
We’re told the flap began when Trump backer and Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei donated $250,000 but requested that Lopez cool it with the anti-Trump jokes at the Carousel Ball.
pagesix.com...

George still thought Trump was good material, along with white privilege and racist jokes about the boarder wall being built. Cheap jokes for a very expensive charity event- $5,000-$100,000 per table. Know your audience.

We’re told that Lopez responded to Maffei, “Thank you for changing my opinion on old white men, but it doesn’t change the way I feel about orange men.”

Trying to recover and sensing the audience turn, Lopez said, “Listen, it’s about the kids . . . I apologize for bringing politics to an event. This is America — it still is. So I apologize to your white privilege.”

We’re told Lopez also told a joke about Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico, saying, “I guess you can get some Mexicans to do it cheaper and they wouldn’t crush the tunnels underneath.”

George said he did his routine, but sources at the event said he was escorted off stage.

What's that saying? "Know your audience?"

Some one didn't do their homework.

Your OP about Lopez bombing on stage is still probably some of the best press he's had in years.

I'm shocked they even let him take the stage to begin with. The guy sucks.

His comedy isn't funny. It's very typical and obvious racist humor and lame gags.

He's never been funny IMO. His show was awful too.

That's Carlos Mencia. Or did the sarcasm go over my head?

That's what I was thinking too. Mencia is more known for stealing jokes. Lopez just isn't funny and his jokes are obvious and lame.

Both have no d*cks.

It's just comedy. We all need to lighten up and laugh at ourselves from time to time.

It's also ironic that the people who most cry foul about political correctness are the ones dictating to a comedian what is not politically correct to talk about on stage.

In some ways I agree with you but, maybe just maybe a comedian at a charity function should think about the charity. Not a bright idea to anger the donors no matter what their political persuasion might be. Wallets tend to snap shut when people are angry. That goes for both sides of the political aisle. Don't make jokes about Democrats or Republicans. You are bound to pi$$ off a potential donor and the charity suffers because you just had to go there and couldn't leave it alone.

Just to be clear, if this had been his own show (not a charity event) I wouldn't really care. I just think it shows a lack of respect for the charity and the possible loss of donations. Like someone said earlier, know your audience.

I understand your point. And certainly that would have been the more pragmatic approach on George's part.

However, I'm pretty sure George Lopez is known for this type of humor as being at the core of his routine. Wouldn't it have been better for the charity to book a more politically benign comedian?

George Lopez got some great coverage and he is laughing all the way to the bank. Just like Stephen Colbert did after the 2006 White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Never was funny...

You never tell a comic not to do something.

If you do, I have...It will be the first thing out of their mouths.

*I must admit. I enjoy a good eat it routine every now and then.

Lopez is a prime example of a self-loathing racist.

In one hilarious sketch, he described Mexican air-conditioning thusly:

"Mexicans have air conditioning. We take a brick, go out back, and smash out a car window..."

witnessed on his TV show circa 2004 (+/- a few years)

How is this funny? Does he have no sense of value for Latino culture?
Is he saying that they cannot afford nice cars with A/C, and are too stupid to fix a window crank?
Why would anyone waste a good piece of auto glass???
Is he pretending to be Mexican? Pretending to be indigent?
He need not pretend to be a coked out racist buffon.
I know there's a word for this sort of traitor in other cultures...
uncle tom....yes, he is an uncle tom.

All the Mexicans I know have cars kept in perfect running condition.
From my experience, they are far more capable than Lopez describes, and have
extensive knowledge of mechanical upkeep, and are unwasteful with resources.
Lopez is california born and bred domestic scum.
He uses Latinos to propel his career, by degrading them, pandering to non-Latinos who resonate to his racism.
Money money money money money.

From the story his routine is circa 1998. Worn out and old. All he is missing is bathroom humor.

Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx did the same thing. That is, pushing racial stereotypes to the extreme. These men were revered in most of the black community, they certainly weren't considered self-loathing racists. Although some of the old folks didn't hold with his prolific use of the N-word.

In fact the image I get from your example is so extreme, I know it's fiction. Latinos know it's fiction, and they're well aware of the Latino racial stereotypes. I can't speak for their community, but I assume they probably find his over-the-top racist humor to be funny.
